Watching Steve Williams in the pocket during the 2016 season, one can quickly tell he is locked in with a mission to succeed. Talking to him off the field, one can also quickly tell that laser focus is still firmly locked in place. The high intensity on and off the field has led to an outstanding junior campaign so far, one that is not yet completed.

Williams is dropping dimes all over the field for Miramar High School after transferring from Everglades in the off-season. The 6-0, 180 pound, gunslinger started the final four games of his sophomore year taking that experience onto the field with the Patriots. Miramar has started the season 7-2 rolling through some tough Florida 8A opposition. Exact stats have not been posted on Williams entire season to date, but through the first three game of the season he was an amazing 21 of 24 for 640 yards with 11 touchdowns against just one pick.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Williams to go over his junior season covering his progress on the field.

Interview

Steve, the Patriots are 7-2 on the year, how is everything going on the field?

“It is going great actually. I am having a pretty good year so far. We are 7-2, my stats are very good. I have a lot of work to do but overall it has been a great year so far.”

What has been the biggest challenge for you this year?

“I think trying to be a leader. I am stepping into that leadership role. It is not the easiest thing to do but I’m getting better and better at it every day.”

What parts of your game have you improved upon this year?

“Reading defenses. Our coaches emphasis how to read defenses. They have helped me understand the basics of certain defenses.”

What else have you improved upon this season?

“Going through my progressions and trying to play at a high level. Going through progression quicker and working on my game overall. You can always improve.”

Which game has been your best this year?

“My best game would probably be against Monarch (won 53-0). I threw five touchdowns in three quarters.”

After beating Everglades 35-0 on Friday night, you have one game left against Western. With one game left what is the challenge for the team going into that game?

“To stay focused. We are getting ready for the playoffs but it is one game at a time. We are trying to get better each and every day.”

Which schools are showing recruiting in you right now?

“Illinois, Pennsylvania, and FIU (Florida International). I’m not too worried about recruiting. After the season I will start looking at it. I’ll start looking at camps and targeting schools I’d like to go to.”

Have you taken any game day visits this season?

“I to Miami for the Florida A&M game.”

How did the Miami visit go?

“It went well. It was fun. It wasn’t a close game (Miami won 70-0), but it was a good experience.”

What is your overall GPA?

“3.2.”

Have you taken the ACT or SAT yet?

“I just took the ACT. I got a 21 on it. I’m going to take it again after the season to get a better score.”

Steve, thanks for your time today and good luck in the playoffs.
