While all the immediate fan buzz along the recruiting trail is focused on the 2018 class, the next wave of potential All-Conference and All-American talents in the 2019 class are working hard ready to make their impact when their time comes. There were a lot of top underclassmen on hand at the Los Angeles Nike Opening Regional on Sunday, March 12, with a handful of skill position players truly standing out above the rest.

The top Class of 2018 players that show out at Nike’s regional camps are invited to the Opening in Oregon where 166 recruits go head-to-head over a four-day schedule. The underclassmen have to wait their turn for a chance to go to Eugene but the camp organizers incentivize the current sophomore players with honors of their own. For the skill position players they received an opportunity to be selected for the “Pressure Chamber” pitting the best of the best against one another in a 7-on-7 match-up.

Among the best underclassmen selected for the Pressure Chamber included Hawkins LB/RB De’Gabriel Floyd, Servite DB/ATH KJ Trujillo, St. John Bosco CB Chris Steele (UCLA), Servite LB/TE Spencer Lytle, Junipero Serra CB Max Williams, Mater Dei LB Mase Funa, Mater Dei QB JT Daniels, Servite WR Kyle Ford, and Servite TE Ethan Rae.

After being selected as one of the top performers among the underclassmen at the Nike Opening Regional, Spencer Lytle commented on the honor stating, “It was a huge honor to be called out as one of the top linebackers at the Nike Opening Regional in LA and getting to compete in the final 7-on-7 competition in the Pressure Chamber.”

All of the talented players selected share another commonality, each has already received Power Five Conference scholarship offers. With all of the play-making skills showcased throughout the camp on Sunday among the Pressure Chamber finalist, be on the lookout along the recruiting trail for each to become an even hotter commodity among next level programs.
