Back in March, Recruiting News Guru officially broke the news that Chuck Filiaga was leaving Vista Murrieta High School in southern California for a school in Texas, but which lucky school was landing the 4-star talent was still undecided. On Wednesday, Filiaga made his new school official announcing Aledo High School as his destination for his senior season.

Filiaga has been a force on the California gridiron since his freshman year first playing for St. Augustine High School in the San Diego area before transferring to Vista Murrieta for his sophomore season. Filiaga started out as a 6’6”, 275 pound, defensive end but has morphed into a monster 6’7”, 330 pound, left tackle able to hold his own against the best of them nationwide.

In a previous RNG interview with Filiaga, Southlake Carrol High School was a potential landing spot in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington area. In the end, the Bearcats are the team adding the powerful tackle to their already successful football program.

Aledo ended the 2015 season 13-2 making a run to the Texas High School Playoffs semifinals before falling 42-21 to runner-up Lake Ridge High School (Mansfield). The 2014 squad posted a 15-1 mark beating Temple 49-45 for the 5A championship. Aledo’s success over the past two seasons has helped Bearcats continue on to Division-I programs. Out of the 2015 class, wide receiver Ryan Newsome headed to Texas, defensive back Johnathan Durham went to Kansas State, and running back Jess Anders signed with Texas-San Antonio. The 2016 class placed two more with D-I teams adding defensive back Pat Peek with New Mexico and offensive lineman Hunter Harris to Kansas.

Filiaga will help bring more college recruiters to the yard for practices and Friday night games. The total offers for Filiaga have been under reported somewhere in the mid 20’s, but the reality is 30-plus have offered. Some of the schools extending scholarships includes USC, Tennessee, TCU, UCLA, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Oregon, Auburn, Arizona State, Michigan, Florida, Cal, and Alabama.

The 2017 U.S. Army All-American Game invitee has been busy in the offseason taking unofficial visits to USC, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Baylor, and Oklahoma.

  • I wonder why this young man has decided to change high schools for his senior year? Aledo BearCats are definitely a football Tour De Force and that has to be the appeal. I am sure his friends in California will miss him.
