There is a runaway freight train on Arkansas gridirons this season disguised as Pulaski Academy. The high school located in Little Rock is on a 23-game winning streak dating back to a road trip in September 2016 against East High School, the eventual Utah state champs and MaxPreps No. 18 team in the nation (Xcellent ranking). Through the 11 games won in 2017, the Burins offense has averaged 58 points per contest with a receiver corps too dangerous to shut down. One of the leaders of PA’s fearsome unit is Class of 2018 wide receiver Brett Lynch.

Lynch was a force to be reckoned with last year pulling in 42 passes for 760 yards with 10 touchdowns. As all seniors strive to do, the 6-3, 175 pound, playmaker has taken his game to another level pulling in 63 passes for 987 yards with 18 touchdowns. If that wasn’t enough, he has carried the rock three times for 31 more yards giving cause for the band to play one more time.

Lynch impresses beyond the field taking the hard work into the classroom. Taking the ACT for a second time in October, he raised his score on the standardized test from a 28 to a 31. The sure to be first team All-State performer continues to draw college recruiting interest. The 18 receiving touchdowns scored is best in-state, and what college offensive coordinator could pass on a big receiving target who knows how to move the chains and get into the end zone? Teams looking at Lynch includes Georgetown, Princeton, Columbia, Southeast Missouri State, and Central Arkansas. Visits have been taken to Central Arkansas, Southeast Missouri State, and on Saturday to a new recruiting interest – Southern Illinois.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the top talents in Arkansas’ 2018 class getting a quick update on the Bruins first round playoff win and insight on his visit with the Salukis.

Interview

Brett, congratulations on the big first round playoff win against Valley View. How did the team look in the 57-21 opening round victory?

“The team looked good. We got out to a quick lead, 42-0 in the first half, and then the starters came out. Our offense and defense had the same efficiency and we got the win.”

How did the game go for you?

“It went well. I had a few catches for 70 yards and scored two touchdowns. I had a pretty good game.”

The Bruins get Harrison (8-3) next, what kind of game are you guys expecting from the Goblins?

“We’re expecting a physical game. They are going to blitz our quarterback, Layne Hatcher, and drop into coverage. We have to be on top of our stuff against them and get our blitz calls right.”

You’re recruiting interest continues to grow, which schools are looking into you since we last spoke?

“Southern Illinois of recent is showing a lot of interest.”

Have you taken any visits lately?

“I took a visit to Southern Illinois yesterday for their game against Youngstown State.”

How did the visit go?

“It was awesome. The excitement around the team was amazing. All the players were hyped and flying around doing their job. It was exciting to watch them play.”

What all did you do during your time in Carbondale?

“We toured the facilities, watched the team warmups, and then watched the game.”

Did the coaches update you on what to expect in the recruiting process going forward?

“I think the coaches are waiting to see about an academic scholarship. I could get a full-ride there on an academic scholarship.”

Do you have any planned visits set?

“No, not right now.”

If all goes as planned on Friday against Harrison, who might the Bruins face in the third round?

“We will face either Nettleton or Greenbrier.”

Do you have a preference on which team you face in the third roun?

“I think we match up better with Greenbrier but we will more than likely will face Nettleton.”

Brett, thanks for your time today and good luck on Friday against the Goblins.

“Thank you.”
