Catch Up Interview with St. John Bosco QB Jack Alexander

Written by Ryan Wright

An opening of epic high school portions has come to St. John Bosco’s football program. After three years, and one high school national championship, No. 1 rated Class of 2015 quarterback Josh Rosen is no longer under center for the Bellflower powerhouse team.

Rosen was an early enrollee leaving huge shoes to fill in the huddle for Bosco. Quentin Davis is expected to be the starter but three sophomore quarterback are fighting for a chance to be the backup quarterback which means getting on the field, more than likely in mop up duty, in 2015. One of those quarterbacks is Jack Alexander.

I caught up with the, 6’1”, 165 pound, quarterback before going on the field for practice getting an overview on his offseason camp circuit and how the first week of fall practices have gone so far.

Jack, which camps did you compete at in the offseason?

“I went San Jose State and Washington State, their satellite camp. They both went pretty well. I was hoping I could get in a few more but we have team practices.”

How did the SJSU camp go?

“It went well. I feel like I was one of the top quarterbacks there out of a group of about 20. I liked the way they ran the camp. We did a lot of one-on-ones and I got to spend a good amount of time with their quarterback coach (Al Borges). We got to do some individual work for about half an hour or so.”

Did San Jose State say anything about keeping in touch with you for recruiting purposes going forward?

“They mentioned that they – the quarterback coach talked to a couple of us. He talked about coming up to watch game this season and stuff like that.”

How did the Washington State camp go for you?

“It went a lot better. I got pulled aside by head coach Mike Leach. I talked to him for about 15 minutes or so. He said to make sure we keep in touch and stuff like that. I had one of my better camp days there.”

What else did Coach Leach say to you?

“He was asking about how the offseason was going and 7×7, stuff like that. He asked what we were doing at Bosco preparing for next season. I talked to a few of the other coaches like the receivers coach (Graham Harrell) as well.”

What all have you been doing in the offseason for workouts?

“We had a dead period to June 1 to the 21st. That was all lifting and running. Then wee started summer practice on 22. That goes Monday through Friday practicing on the field, lifting, and stuff like that. We’ll be doing that until September.”

You essentially have a week and a half of practices under your belt. How have the practices gone for you so far?

“They’re going well. We have some new transfers and some guys left. All in all it is looking pretty good. We’ve played a couple of 7×7 games and those have gone well.”

Where are you in the quarterback shuffle? Are you getting a lot of reps?

“Right now there are three sophomores and I would say we are all getting equal work. Our starter Quentin (Davis), not our starter but favorite to-be, is getting more of the first team. They are giving all three sophomores a chance to prove our point and get on the field early.”
