The 49ers stole an under the radar recruit out of Florida on Wednesday when West Palm Beach area cornerback Darnell Robinson committed to Charlotte.

Robinson (5-9.5, 175) was a key contributor to Oxbridge Academy’s 9-3 season in 2015. His play on defense stood out after coming up with 42 tackles, 31 solo, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two interceptions. The stat line shinned against tough Florida 4A and 3A competition.

Charlotte was able to secure Robinson’s commitment over offers from Army, Dartmouth, Yale, Southern Miss, Princeton, Bowling Green, Appalachian State, Alcorn State, Miami (OH), and Navy.

The Thunder Wolves have started the 2016 season 2-0 with wins over Flanagan and Carol City. Robinson is credited with five tackles and a pass breakup thus far on the year. 247Sports rates Robinson as a three-star recruit.
