The high school career for running back Fred Jackson was dynamic from beginning to the end, but a little extra juice was displayed down the backstretch of his senior season. After rushing for an estimated 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns during his junior season on a 1-9 Lake Minneola team, he pulled all his resources together for an estimated 2,200 yards with 30 rushing scores while covering 300 yards in the passing game with four more trips to the end zone in a 5-5 Hawks campaign. With offers extended from Florida International, Notre Dame (Ohio), Florida Atlantic, Army, and Western Kentucky, the ultimate 5-9, 175 pound, scat-back updates his recruiting process in an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview.

Interview

Fred, where did your stat line end up in 2017?

“I don’t have my stats in front of me, but I had 2,200-yards with 30 rushing touchdowns and 300 receiving yards with four more touchdowns.”

That is a fantastic season. Did you receive any postseason honors?

“I was first team All-Central Florida, 7A Player of the Year, and the leading rusher in Central Florida.”

Have you started your offseason workouts yet, if so, what all are you doing to stay in shape and improve your game?

“I’m working out trying to go to college in my best shape ever. I’m in the weight room and I am working on my footwork, hands, and speed. I’m going to college to be the best.”

Are there any schools showing interest in you but have yet to offer?

“My coach said some schools like North Carolina are showing interest, but he handles all of that. I am not sure which schools are showing interest. I’m being patient. It is in God’s hands.”

How many offers do you have now?

“Five.”

Do you have any upcoming visits planned?

“On Feb. 2, I am going to Western Kentucky and on Jan. 18 I am going to a school in Pennsylvania, Mercyhurst. They are a D-II school.”

When the time comes for you to make a decision on the school you will attend and the program you will play football for at the collegiate level, what factors will play into that determination?

“I’ll pray for it. I will go wherever I feel comfortable going. The journey I am on, God will lead me to where I need to be for college. I am receiving great support from my mom and my family along the way.”

For the underclassmen that may read this, what words of wisdom do you have to pass along about the recruiting process?

“Don’t let it get to you and don’t let it overwhelm you. Leave it in God’s hands. He knows the journey. Keep pushing, keep working hard, and keep grinding. Hard work will take you a long way.”

Fred, thanks for your time today and good luck with your upcoming visits.

“Thank you.”
