Chalk up another recruiting win for Houston against their in-state Big 12 competitors. On Wednesday the Cougars added in-state talent when Donovan Stiner pledged to Houston.

Stiner was part of a tough Bellaire High School team in 2015 that went 6-6 against 6A competition. The 6-2, 185 pound, safety was among the team leaders in tackles with 60 while coming up with four tackles for a loss, a sack, a fumble recovery, and defended three passes. The Cardinals also used him as a punt returner gaining 68 yards on four returns.

Through four games into the 2016 season, Stiner is once again among the leaders on his team in tackles with 24 and has already recovered two fumbles, and picked off a pass returning it 92 yards for a pick-six.

Houston has been on Stiner for months. The Cougars offered on May 25 coinciding with a May 28 decommitment from Baylor. Houston won out over other Big 12 offers from Oklahoma State and a SEC offer from Missouri for Stiner. Stiner posted a commitment statement on Twitter:

Houston now has 19 commitments to their 2017 class. The haul is filled with solid talent throughout. 247Sports rates the Cougars class No. 36 in the nation and second best in the AAC.
