Player Notes from Donovan James:

Knox Kadum is a three-star quarterback from Rome, Georgia. He stands at 6-3 190 pounds. According to the latest 247Sports rankings, he ranks as the No. 46 Pro-style QB and the 104th ranked prospect in Georgia. Kadum currently holds five offers with the latest coming from Akron.

From many circles I’ve spoken with, I expect Knox to double his offer list by the end of his senior season. Although he is a “late bloomer” prospect, he still managed to go 114-160 for 2,048 yards 25 touchdowns and three interceptions last season.

This season I expect a run at a third state title and for him to solidify his position as a top-tier quarterback in Georgia. I expect offers from Power Five Conference schools like Alabama, Kentucky, West Virginia and Georgia to come in for Kadum.

Interview

How was atmosphere last season going against 2017 Elite 11 winner Justin Fields who is currently enrolled at UGA?

“Justin Fields is an outstanding quarterback and will do big things at UGA. He’s a guy with great character and passion, you gotta like him, except when he’s running the offense against you. I went into the game with a chip on my shoulder knowing I was the underdog QB and just looked to compete every snap for four quarters against the best guy in the 2018 class. The main focus was to win which is what we expected to do going into the game.

“For me personally I just wanted to prove myself against the best and show everyone what I’m capable of doing out there as well. We haven’t lost a game in Barron Stadium since 2015, my freshman year, so being at home is a big advantage for us with the fans, student body, and atmosphere behind us. When you play in Barron it’s special and our No. 1 rule is to never lose so the win was an expectation. The competition was motivation for me.”

Who are your favorite QB’s to watch on Saturday and Sundays?

“My favorite QB to watch on Saturdays has definitely been Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma, because of his determination and all the adversity he has overcame throughout his career, plus he’s a winner. On Sundays, it would have to be five-time champ Tom Brady. You can’t help but admire his demeanor and the things he does on the field.”

What is your favorite hype music before a game?

“I’m a classic rock guy, I would have to go with something like AC/DC, KISS or Metallica.”

What would it mean to you to win state championship for Rome?

“I’m proud to say I’m about to be a four-year starter, and I’ve won two state championships back-to-back (2016-17). We’re on a 27-game win streak. I want nothing more than to finish my career as a Wolf with 15 more wins in a row. I am 36-5 as a starter and have expectations to be 51-5 when I finish here at Rome.”
