Life altering decisions are never easy, especially for a heavily sought after four-star recruit like Hank Bachmeier. The 6-2, 200-pound, dual-threat has been about as prolific and consistent as one can be over the past two seasons throwing for 3,862 yards with 46 touchdowns against just three picks in 2016 and tossing for another 3,255 yards with 42 scores during his junior year. The ground game has always been there for the Murrieta Valley High School standout rushing for 679 yards and eight scores as a sophomore and besting himself last season rushing for 776 yards with 10 trips into the end zone. The work on the field led to 20 reported offers. The stressful recruiting process came to an end on Wednesday, May 9, when the California product verbally committed to Boise State.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the nation’s best dual-threat quarterbacks getting the inside scoop on how the Broncos won him over and how his commitment went down.

Interview

Hank, first off, congratulations on your commitment to Boise State.

“Thank you.”

What drew you to Boise State initially in the recruiting process?

“They have a great tradition of being a great team. Every year they are always in the Top 25. They do a good job of developing players and getting them into the league. The offense, I like their offense. There was a combination of things that attracted me to Boise State early on in the process.”

Over time, how did Boise State become your ideal school?

“Comfort – that was the biggest factor for me. Being there, it felt right. That helped push my decision. On my visits, I felt at home. They have a family atmosphere there. The offense will fit me. The coaching staff; I gravitate towards Coach (Zak) Hill (offensive coordinator) and Coach (Bryan) Harsin (head coach) is great as well.”

How do they see you working their offense?

“I’m pretty sure they see me as being versatile as a quarterback. I can line up in the spread or under center. That is what they have talked to me about in regards to the offense and my fit.”

How did you notify the coaching staff of your commitment?

“I called Coach Harsin yesterday and told him.”

How did you break the news to him?

“I told him it has been a long and strenuous journey, and I’m ready to be a Bronco.”

What was Coach Harsin’s response?

“Coach Harsin… I think he yelled. He was fired up. I think he was on his way to a season ticket sales event; some big event for season tickets. He was walking over to the event when I called him. It was pretty cool.”

Silly question, but are you going to start recruiting other players to join you?

“Heck yeah.”

Do you have any guys in mind already?

“I have a few in mind, but I will feel them out first.”

Are you going up to Boise State for a camp this summer?

“I don’t know. I committed yesterday, that is where I am at right now. I am not sure of the next steps yet.”

Hank, thanks for your time today and, again, congratulations on your commitment.

“Thank you.”
