When LaTavion Scott takes the field for his senior year, he will have a wide range of interested individuals taking notice. Opposing Arkansas defenses will be watching his every move after a 2017 season that included 1,480 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns and 389 receiving yards with another score posted. Fans of Bryant High School will be watching with a hopeful eye wanting to see Scott take the Hornets back to the playoffs after a 10-2 season that included their star tailback earning All-State honors. College coaches will be watching for all the same reasons and more with the thought of what the 5-8, 205-pound, talent can bring to their roster as part of the 2019 recruiting class.

In a Recruiting News Guru stylized catch-up interview, I sat down with Scott after seeing him at the Dallas Nike Opening Regional for a quick update on his offseason workouts and planned college camp circuit this summer.

Interview

Latavion, how are your offseason workouts coming along?

“They are coming along great. Our coach has a great strength coach for us. They are on top of us every day, pushing us to get better. We are getting bigger every day and working hard.”

Where are you seeing the biggest gains in your workouts this spring?

“My speed. I am definitely seeing an increase with my speed. I have gotten stronger on squats; I was at 355 but now I can squat 450. I can see improvement in my speed because my legs are stronger.”

When do the Hornets start spring ball?

“We started last week, we are in our second week. It is going excellent. All the players are getting a lot of reps, everything is going well.”

Where all might we see you on the field during your senior year?

“Of course, I will be at running back. I will also be on kick return and maybe punt return. I want to be on the punt team this year to help block. I will also play some slot receiver this year. I will be around the field a lot during my senior year.”

What are you working on this offseason?

“I am working on catching the ball. To be honest, I may catch 200 passes a day. I am keeping things crispy with my speed and my cuts.”

What goals have you set for the 2018 season?

“The goals I have set for myself are 2,000 all-purpose yards and over 1,800 rushing yards.”

I saw you in Dallas recently for the Nike Regional. How did the Dallas Nike Opening Regional go for you?

“It went well. That was a good learning experience for me. That was only my second camp that I have been to. There was a lot of great competition out there. It was great to compete against other great athletes.”

What did you do well at that camp?

“I did well in the drills and in the one-on-ones. I was getting a lot of reps. Guys were standing back, so I stepped up and took reps.”

Did you get any feedback from the coaches at the camp?

“From the coaches, I was getting a lot of “I like that” and “that is how you do it right there”.”

Do you have any upcoming camps you may attend?

“Yes, sir. I am going to Ouachita Baptist this month and to the Memphis Mega camp. I plan on attending camps at Arkansas Tech, Arkansas State, UCA (Central Arkansas), and hopefully Arkansas this summer.”

Which schools are showing recruiting interest in you?

“Texas State, Arkansas Tech, OBU, and SMU.”

Have any college coaches started coming by school to meet you our see you workout in person?

“Yes, sir. There have been a lot of schools coming by; Louisiana Tech, UCA, Arkansas State, Tulane, Miami Redhawks, and SMU have all come by Bryant.”

Last question. If you could talk to every college football coach in America at one time to tell them about the type of student-athlete you are, what would you tell them?

“I feel that I can get any job required of me accomplished. I will play wherever I am needed. I am a hard worker and dedicated. I give my all with any task given to me.”

LaTavion, thanks for your time today and good luck with the upcoming camps and the rest of your spring practices.

“Thank you.”
