Covenant Christian Academy had one of the best seasons in school history as the Lions finished 9-3 and advanced to the second round of the Division IV state playoffs before falling in heartbreaking fashion, 42-0, to Cedar Creek. One of the leaders on both sides of the ball was Caleb Seitz.

Seitz spent time at both linebacker and quarterback despite missing four games due to a broken collarbone. The 6’1”, 190 pound, playmaker has had a very accomplished high school career as he won many individual honors at several different positions including tight end and linebacker.

During his senior campaign, Seitz helped lead the offense which scored 25.75 points a game and was a key member of the defense which only allowed 21.3 points per contest.

The Class of 2017 recruit currently has one college offer and is currently drawing interest from several other in-state colleges. Seitz has a 2.56 GPA with plans of studying business and marketing in college.

The senior athlete is very physical and hard-hitting on the field which are a couple of the attributes he learned from uncle, Michael P.S. Hayes. Hayes is a WWE Hall of Famer and most notably known as being one half of the Fabulous Freebirds tag team. Seitz is really close to his uncle and they talk about his football and academics as often as they can despite Mr. Hayes still being on the road working for WWE.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Caleb to talk about his high school career, his recruiting process and what’s like having a famous wrestler as an uncle.

Interview

What are your thoughts on the 2016 season?

“The season didn’t go as well I planned. I was out for four weeks with a collarbone injury. We took our team farther than ever before. We had a really young team but we can’t hang our heads about it.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance?

“I gave it all I had and left it all on the field but I could have played better. My performance was good enough.”

Did you receive any individual honors?

“First team All-District tight end and linebacker in 2014 and 2015. I played quarterback this year but I don’t think I won anything there, but I should get something at linebacker.”

What are some of your most memorable moments from your high school career?

“My sophomore year, I scored a touchdown right before the half in the district championship game and we beat our rival, Houma Christian, 41-7 last year.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“Definitely open field tackling. I fill up holes. I also have great hands to make catches as a tight end but I love being physical and hitting other people.”

Do you have any college offers?

“Just one right now from a NAIA school in Missouri.”

Are there any other schools showing interest in you?

“Northwestern State, Nicholls State, and Louisiana-Lafayette.”

Have you been on any college visits?

“Nicholls State.”

Did you attended any college camps this summer?

“Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, and Nicholls State.”

Out of all the positions you played in high school which one did you enjoy the most?

“Linebacker, because it’s physical. Hitting the guy with the ball is my favorite part of football, it’s the best thing ever.”

What is your GPA?

“2.56”

What do you want to study in college?

“Business and marketing.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My dad, Richard Seitz, has helped me mature on the field and my main two coaches, Randy Boquet and Austin Kesterson.”

Is there a current NFL player that you try to model your game after?

“Not really, but I like Tyrann Mathieu (Arizona Cardinals).”

“Which teams are your favorite football teams?

“LSU and the Saints.”

“Do you have any hobbies outside of football and school?

“I play baseball and soccer and I can complete the Rubix Cube in 47 seconds. In baseball, I play outfield and pitcher.”

Do you have any favorite sports teams outside of football?

“The Atlanta Braves.”

What is like having a famous WWE Hall of Famer as an uncle?

“He came to two of my games and almost made a third but his flight was delayed. We’re really close and talk a lot. I’ve been to a lot of wrestling shows with him and have met every wrestler you can think of.”

Do you feel any pressure with having a famous uncle?

“There is in a way because all the adults and staff at my school know who he is but other than that not really.”
