Statistics for cornerbacks can be hard to come by but the measuring stick is what was accomplished when the ball went in that direction. During the 2016 season, Level Price Jr. was a key contributor to St. John Bosco’s California state title run putting together a reputation as a speedy cover corner. Now the Class of 2018 rising talent is ready to go back-to-back in one of the hardest conferences and in one of the toughest divisions in the country while pushing his skillset forward with one of the best squads in the nation.

Defensive statistics on the Braves squad was not easy to come by last season. Through a 13-2 season that included playing nationally ranked Top 25 teams like St. Xavier (Cincinnati), eventual national champs Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Centennial (Corona), De La Salle (Concord), and Mater Dei (Santa Ana) twice, Bosco only allowed on average 19 points per contest. To put into perspective, the offense was posting on average 45 points per game, meaning there were a whole lot of three-and-outs and a lot of turnovers collected giving the ball back to the offense to assert their will on the opposition. Even with limited opportunities, Price still racked up 24 tackles, 22 solo, with one tackle for a loss, and five passes denied.

The offseason has been a busy one for Price working out with his team, playing 7v7 ball, and attending a USC camp. All the effort and focus on improving his game has paid off in the form of two Power Five Conference scholarship offers; Vanderbilt and Boston College. Other top programs like Kansas State, Boise State, Arizona State, UCLA, and Washington State will continue their scouting of Price throughout the upcoming season. One thing Price has that most defensive backs cannot match is pure speed. Price posted a 4.34 time in the 40 meter at Bosco.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the overlooked talents in the Golden State getting insight on his offseason workouts, recruiting process, and the Braves’ 2017 roster.

Interview

Level, how have your off-season workouts gone?

“They have been good so far. I’ve been working on my technique and press man. This year I am planning on being more aggressive with my press.”

Where all will we see you on the field during the 2017 season?

“I’m playing nickel, corner, and sometimes I’ll be back as a kick returner.”

You mentioned working on your technique and press man, what other areas of your game have you focused on intensely over the summer?

“Getting out of my breaks faster, working on my feet and hips, and getting my hands onto receivers faster to slow them down off the line.”

Did you play 7v7 ball with an all-star team this spring?

“I did. I played with Ground Zero.”

How did playing with Ground Zero help your game?

“At Ground Zero, we press man all the time. That helped my press coverage a lot.”

Did you go to any college camps this summer?

“Yeah. I went to the USC Rising Star’s Camp.”

What did you do well at that camp?

“I did well during one-on-one and seven-on-seven drills. During seven-on-seven, I got a pick. That is how I got the Vanderbilt offer. I did not lose a rep in one-on-ones.”

You have offers from Vanderbilt and Boston College, what other schools are showing interest in you?

“Kansas State, Arizona State, UCLA, Boise State, and Washington State.”

Do you have any planned visits set for this fall?

“I am planning on visiting Boston College during our bye week and Vanderbilt at the end of the season.”

What has you excited about the upcoming season?

“I’m excited for our first game against St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) and for the Mater Dei game. We have new uniforms we are wearing for the Mater Dei game. The new uniforms are really nice.”

Are there any games you are excited to play above the others?

“Orange Lutheran. One of our offensive coaches went there and he is talking about how they are going to beat us. I am excited to show him how good our secondary really is this year.”

What goals have you set for yourself?

“I want to beat Bosco’s single-season interception record.”

What is the record for a season?

“Seven.”

What do you love most about playing football?

“How energetic I can be out on the field and how I can express myself on the field. Playing football allows me to get hyped and play with passion and emotion.”

Level, thanks for your time today and good luck with the upcoming season.

“Thank you.”
