Mississippi State Adds Former Michigan State DE Montez Sweat via JUCO Ranks

Mississippi State potentially added a big impact player to their 2017 recruiting class on Monday with the verbal commitment of defensive end Montez Sweat.
Sweat made a name for himself out of Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain (GA) as part of the 2014 recruiting class. The now- 6-6, 250 pound, end got some playing time for the Spartans during his true freshman season tallying four tackles in 2014 but redshirted in 2015 after a suspension that carried from the early part of the season into the spring. In April, Sweat transferred to Copiah-Lincoln starting his recruiting process over again.
Michigan State flipped Sweat away from Vanderbilt in December 2013. During his senior season Sweat had double-digit offers from Florida State, West Virginia, Duke, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Boston College, Iowa State, and Mississippi State. At that time, some teams were recruiting Sweat as a collegiate tight end.
The Bulldogs now have 21 verbal commitments to their 2017 class with a heavy lean on the junior college ranks. Eight of MSU’s commits are from the junior college level showing the staff has a lot of immediate needs to fill on the roster for next year’s squad.
