The recruiting trail for Ohio State had gone cold with the weather suffering de-commitments instead of adding top of the line recruits. On Wednesday, OSU lost four-star linebacker Antjuan Simmons but found a very suitable replacement in five-star linebacker Baron Browning.

Browing has been a big part of Kennedale High School’s 10-3 season, which is still ongoing. The Wildcats play Van High School Friday night in the Region 2 4A championship bracket game for the right to go to the semifinal round of the state title game. The 6-3, 230 pound, linebacker is second on the team with 71 total tackles while coming up with 10 tackles for a loss, three sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

College recruiters have been aware of Browning’s abilities since his freshman season when he was given District 6-3A Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors. He was a first team All-District selection as a junior and named to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl during his senior season. At least 40 colleges have extended offers to Browning but the schools that received his official visits included Michigan, Alabama, Florida State, UCLA, and Ohio State on Nov. 26.

Browning posted a statement on Twitter announcing his decision:

Ahead of Browning’s commitment, the last players join OSU’s 2017 class were receivers Trevon Grimes and Tyjon Lindsey on Oct. 21 and 22nd respectively.

Rivals and 247Sports both rate the Buckeyes class No. 2 in the nation with five five-star recruits and nine four-star prospects.
