After an all-state performance for Timpview High School during his junior season, college coaches are taking notice of Canaan Yarro. The 6-2, 280-pound, center is one of the best in the region forcing in-state powers Utah and BYU to take notice. On the heels of a strong Under Armour All-American camp performance in southern California, Yarro took unofficial visits to BYU and Utah over the weekend of March 10 pushing forward a relationship that could bear fruit on National Signing Day.

In a Recruiting News Guru catch-up interview, I got a quick one-on-one with the Provo area product covering his time with both programs last weekend.

Interview

Canaan, how did your visit to BYU go?

“The BYU visit was great. Coach (Ryan) Pugh has the BYU o-line looking super good so that was exciting to see.”

What all did you do during your trip?

“I just watched the whole practice, said hi to some coaches, and then left.”

Did you learn anything new about the program or university?

“I know a lot about BYU, so I didn’t really see anything new.”

What was your lasting impression of BYU from this visit?

“I would love to play here! BYU has a great team and a great tradition.”

How did the visit with Utah go?

“It also went great. It was a fun practice to watch.”

What all did you see and do during that trip?

“I watched the whole practice, and then ate in the Utah cafeteria located in the football center.”

Did either school tell you what they were looking for from you in terms of recruiting, or update you on their recruiting process with you?

“They said just keep working hard, we have an eye on you.”

Do you have any visits coming up?

“As of right now, no.”

From our previous interview, I know you are planning on attending the Nike Regional in Dallas on April 29, how have you been preparing for that camp?

“I’ve been mainly working on just getting bigger, faster, stronger and putting up some higher numbers in the weight room. I’ve also been working on the power ball throw a lot.”

Do you have any other camps set?

“Yes. I’ll be going to some of the Mountain West schools camps this summer like Nevada, Wyoming, San Diego State, and UNLV. I will also attend a Black Hills State Camp, as they have been showing some interest in me lately.”

Canaan, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
