Every now and again it happens – there is a defensive end who can seemingly cover the entire line whether the play is coming his way or not. During the 2017 season, Dylan Hall had a coming out party at Antelope Valley High School making opposing California offenses pay along the way. Now his sights are set on taking his game to the next level while drawing Power Five Conference scouts to Lancaster (CA).

The Antelopes had a season to remember in 2017 making a Division VIII championship title run. The 11-3 season was made possible in-part due to Hall’s play. On defense, the 6-6, 235 pound, bruiser produced 56 tackles and an estimated 23 tackles for a loss with 12 sacks. If that wasn’t enough, he also played some ironman football lining up as a hand in the dirt tight end.

The vast possibilities Hall’s athletic abilities brings to the field has college coaches loving what they are seeing. So far, Illinois, Nevada, and Purdue have offered with a growing list of interest from top schools such as Arizona, Washington State, UCLA, USC, Stanford, Arizona State, and Oregon, among others.

In a Recruiting News Guru stylized interview, I sat down with the three-star 2019 prospect gaining insight on his junior campaign while learning more about his growing recruiting process.

Interview

Dylan, the Antelopes made a remarkable run to the state title game in 2017. What was the playoff run like for you?

“For me, it was a cool experience. It was my first year playing varsity. It did not end the way we wanted, but it was cool.”

How did your game improve throughout the season on defense?

“It improved tremendously. At every practice I worked on getting better. We all did, and as a team we all got better. For me, I feel that I have the best coaches out there. All my moves are next level stuff. It is hard to guard me. My read is easy and I can beat anyone off the snap. If it is not a run, I am off to the QB.”

You played some offense last year, how did you step up your game in 2017 on the other side of the ball?

“I improved on offense a lot by practicing with Devon Williams (USC). I watched his work ethic, how he caught passes, his route running – everything. I will play some receiver next year. I’m excited.”

Which position is your favorite, tight end or defensive end?

“Defensive end.”

Which position are most colleges recruiting you to play?

“Mostly defensive end. I did have a lot of interest at tight end. A lot of schools are recruiting me as an athlete.”

Which schools are showing interest in you but have not offered yet?

“Schools showing the most interest are Washington State, Utah, Washington, UCLA, Oregon State, and Oregon – really the whole Pac-12. Iowa State, Wyoming, and a lot of Mountain West schools like UNLV and Fresno State are showing interest. Florida State is showing a lot of interest as well. I have two Big Ten offers from Purdue and Illinois. Also out of the Big Ten, Ohio State is also showing some interest.”

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet?

“I have taken a couple to USC and UCLA.”

Do you have any planned visits set?

“I plan to go to Illinois this spring and maybe Arizona State.”

Do you plan to attend any college camps this summer?

“I may go to a USC and UCLA camp. I have been invited to a lot of camps. We’ll see.”

Are you going to any national camps or combines this spring?

“I’ve been invited to the Under Armour, Nike, Rivals, and the Polynesian Camp in Las Vegas.”

What are you working on this offseason to prepare for those camps and the 2018 season?

“I’m really focused on getting my weight up. I keep getting taller so I have to keep adding weight. I’m working on getting faster, stronger, and making sure to get my stretching in after each workout. I’m working on my moves, not just for the camps but to also get ready for the season.”

What goals have you set for this spring and summer?

“My personal goal is to weight 245 by the start of the season and run a 4.6 in the 40.”

Last question. With all the talent Antelope Valley has returning for the 2018 season, what do you guys have to do this offseason to make it back to the title game?

“We gotta want it. We have a talented team returning. On the field we have special talent, off the field stuff can mess things up. If we stay together on the field, we can make another run to the championship.”

Dylan, thanks for your time today and good luck with all the upcoming camps and combines.

“Thank you.”
