Houston picked up their eleventh verbal commitment to their 2017 recruiting class on Thursday when Elijah Gooden pledged to the Cougars.

Gooden was part of Boling High School’s 12-2 season in 2015. The Bulldogs made a four-game run into the Texas UIL Playoffs before falling 35-21 to East Bernard. Gooden has played running back and linebacker for Boling but is projected to play running back at the next level for Houston.

Houston had the Boling area product at a camp on June 6 leading to his June 9 commitment. Gooden posted his commitment to the public on Twitter writing, “Bless to say ive [sic] committed to the University of Houston really a blessing to be able to tell my parents save money.”

Gooden had other reported offers from SMU and Stephen F. Austin.

Should Gooden play running back at Houston, the Cougars now have a fairly even split to their 2017 class with six commitments on the defensive side of the ball.
