One could not blame opposing 5A Arkansas defenders for being glum when White Hall High School’s football team calls a running play putting offensive lineman Jaxson Sanders into attack mode. During his junior season, the 6-3, 295-pound, line mover worked his trade at right tackle blowing open holes on running downs and shutdown ends trying to break the seal of the pocket. Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Tennessee State have offered Sanders with regional interest growing to include TCU, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Louisiana-Monroe, Lafayette, and Arkansas State among others.

With the big man taking several unofficial visits, a busy college camp circuit schedule set, and college coaches coming to the Bulldogs sidelines this spring to see him in practice, it was time for a catch-up interview.

Interview

Jaxson, I am going to start on a different note today. Let’s talk throwing the shot. How did the season end up?

“It ended well. I finished top in conference in shot.”

By the end of track season where you starting to get the hang of it knowing the areas that needed improvement?

“Yes, sir.”

How are your offseason workouts coming along?

“They are going good. I am doing the typical stuff – squats, bench press, clean, running bleachers, running 100s, foot and hand work.”

Where are you showing the biggest gains with your pass-pro and run blocking?

“We haven’t started spring ball yet. We just got a new head coach. With my personal workouts, everything is getting more natural with my pass-pro. It will all be second nature by the time the season comes around. On my punch and kick step, I am working to not shoot my hands too early but at the right time so I will not be beat on the inside move.”

Since we spoke last in February, have you been to any camps or combines?

“I went to a Rivals camp in Houston.”

How did that camp go?

“It went well. I only lost two reps out of 10.”

What did you do well at that camp to show out?

“I showed out with my jump set and hands. I did not let them get inside on me. I did not get beat on the inside move.”

Which camps upcoming might you attend?

“I plan on going to camps with Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Arkansas, Oklahoma, TCU, and the Monster Camp in Little Rock.”

Which schools are showing interest?

“Louisiana Tech, Tulsa, Lafayette, Memphis, Arkansas State, Air Force, and UCA (Central Arkansas).”

You picked up an offer from Tennessee State, what was that like for you being rewarded for your hard work?

“It felt good to get another offer.”

Have you taken any visits this offseason?

“Yes, sir. I have been to Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Tulsa, and Arkansas State.”

How did the Louisiana Tech visit go?

“It went well. It felt like home. All the coaches showed love and interest in me.”

What about ULM, how did that go?

“That also went well. It was the same thing as Louisiana Tech. They have a good training facility there.”

And Arkansas State, how did that go?

“It went well. I was there for their spring game. They have nice facilities at ASU as well.”

Are any college coaches that you know of planning on coming by White Hall this spring to see you in action?

“Yes, sir. I am receiving spring visits by coaches from Louisiana Tech, ULM, and Lafayette.”

At this point in the offseason, what are your personal goals before fall camp with White Hall begins?

“Since we have a new coach, I want to show him why I have been starting since my sophomore year. I want to open up the eyes of coaches this spring when they visit. I want to show them I belong at their level.”

Jaxson, it was great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time and wish you success this spring.

“Thank you.”
