Trevion “Trey” Stevenson proved to be a rising star during the 2018 season creating chaos in opposing Virginia 3A backfields. The growing 6-5, 210-pound, Class of 2021 defensive end/athlete put an end to 61 plays with 15 stops behind the line of scrimmage with seven sacks and forced four fumbles while picking up two. The good word is getting around the recruiting trail about the Phoebus High School product leading to growing interest from regional programs along with SEC and ACC powerhouse programs. Fresh off a visit to the University of Tennessee, I sat down with Stevenson for a quick update.

Interview

Trey, how are the offseason workouts coming along?

“Good. I’ve been in the weight room a lot, competing at 7v7 tournaments, and doing a lot of training overall. I just competed in a 7v7 tournament in Tennessee over the weekend.”

How did the tournament go?

“Real good. I was high-pointing the ball going against top ranked defenders and scoring touchdowns. I caught some good balls this weekend and my route running was good. I had some really good jump ball catches and some good one-on-one balls.”

Where are you seeing the biggest improvement in your workouts?

“I am seeing it everywhere. I am seeing it with my speed. I ran track this year, so my speed got a lot better. My overall strength has improved and I am bigger and stronger now.”

Are you going to any national camps or combines coming up?

“Yes, sir. I am going to the Under Armour All-American Camp on April 28, an Adidas Three-Stripe Camp soon, and I am going to the Nike Opening Regional in May (Baltimore).”

Last time we spoke you had a lot of schools showing interest, which schools are showing the heaviest interest now?

“Wisconsin, Tennessee, Old Dominion, UTSA (Texas-San Antonio), and Michigan.”

Nice. Have you visited any schools lately?

“Yes, sir. I visited Tennessee on Sunday. We were supposed to go to Virginia Tech this weekend but we were running late.”

How did the Tennessee visit go?

“Really well. It was fun. I liked the campus and the coaches a lot. If felt like home there. I had fun.”

What all did you get to do during the visit?

“We went to the gym, training room, locker room, in-door field, and took photos.”

Do you have any planned visits coming up?

“Yes, sir. ODU, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Missouri.”

You mentioned running track, how did the season go?

“It went well. We went to the state championships in the 4×8.”

Nice. How did you do in the individual meets?

“I made regionals in the 500 and 1,000.”

Congrats, Trey. Thanks for your time today and good luck with your upcoming 7v7 tournaments.

“Thank you.”
