Few senior seasons are carrying the magnitude of force as the one for Lakeside High School quarterback Jordan Mills. During his junior season, Mills was playing behind a senior, but still contributed to his team starting at outside linebacker. Now the 6-4, 220-pound, quarterback will be in full control of the Rams offense with one season to show college coaches his talents in the pocket, and the situation is not lost on Mills.

The Hot Springs, Arkansas, product has camped at SMU, Central Arkansas, TCU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Memphis, just to name a few, and has camps scheduled still with Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa to showcase his arm talent and skills as a quarterback.

For an update on all that he has going on and left on the schedule, Mills stopped by the RNG Lab for a one-on-one.

Interview

Jordan, I got to see you sling it back in April in Little Rock. Since then, how have your workouts been going overall?

They have been going really good. I have gone to some camps and been working on my footwork and reads, and making all that faster. I have been working on making my throws perfect.

With your footwork, what have you been working on preparing for the 2021 season?

I have been working on my drops, doing ladder drills, working on getting in and out of the pocket to making a good throw, and throwing on the run. I have been working on making throws without hitching and making them on point as soon as they break.

With your upper body, from your release and form, what all have you been working on this summer?

Making it quicker and making my throw better with the snap I have. A big focus on getting my throwing motion down perfect.

Heading into your senior season, how have you worked to bring the team together showing that leadership with an Arkansas state championship in mind?

We work on one thing at a time. We are getting the team going and working on coming together. As a team, we’ve been working on playing together and working with the new guys coming up, the freshmen becoming sophomores. We’ve been working as a team in the weight room and doing 7v7 making our guys better.

Which camps have you attended so far?

The Elite 11 and the VSG/RNG camp in Little Rock.

Which Elite 11 regional did you compete at?

The Houston Regional.

What was that experience like for you?

It was awesome. It was great.

What did you do well at the Elite 11 going against all the other top quarterbacks from around the region?

Competing against guys with offers, I did well against them. I threw really well. My passes were crisp, deep, and I was making the right throws on point. I felt like I threw strong, and I was strong with my decision making in the one-on-ones and the two-on-twos.

Fantastic. Which college camps have you attended so far?

I went to SMU, Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, UCA (Central Arkansas), TCU, Mississippi State, Ole Memphis, and Memphis.

Wow. That’s a lot of throwing. Of them all, which would you say was your best camp performance?

All of them. I did really well at all of them.

I love it. What kind of feedback have you been receiving from the college coaches at the various camps?

They are telling me that I need to stick with it and keep working, and that they will come watch me later in the season. They are telling me that I need film so they can look at me more. The coaches have told me that I did really well at the camps, but they can’t just go off that. I was pulled aside a lot at the camps.

When pulled aside, what were they telling you?

They talked to me how about I threw, said I threw really well, and that they want to see me in a game this year.

Very cool. Do you have any more camps on your schedule?

Yes, sir. I plan on going to Arkansas this Sunday and Arkansas State on the 21st, then we have a dead week. I plan on going to camps at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa.

If college coaches throughout the region are not on you after all this, they’ve not been paying attention.

Yes, sir.

Let’s get into the recruiting part. Which programs are showing interest?

Mississippi State, Ole Miss, TCU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas Tech, and Arkansas, those are the main ones.

Are there any visits coming up for you?

I’d love to visit Mississippi State again, Memphis, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas.

Jordan, with all that you have going on, I do appreciate your time today. Wishing you great success with the upcoming visits and camps.

Yes, sir. Thank you.
