Opposing California teams can only runaway from Class of 2020 linebacker Sean Evans for so long, but at some point he will get you. The hard-hitting linebacker has built a tough as nails reputation in the box with Rialto’s Eisenhower High School and the Eagles are soaring on the field thanks in large part to Evans’ play.

After a sophomore season filled with 56 stops, five tackles for a loss, and three forced fumbles in 10 Eisenhower games, opposing San Andreas League teams learned quickly to avoid Evans when possible. The 6-0, 227-pound, defender is back at it during his junior campaign filling up the stat sheet with 41 tackles, 28 solo, six tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a pick in seven games. The Eagles defense has been stifling all season only allowing 84 total points on the way to a 7-0 start. One more big regular season challenge awaits Evans and the Eagles.

With a big game coming up on Friday against San Gorgonio that should decide the San Andreas League champions, I got a few minutes in with Evans for a preview with an update on his play in the box.

Interview

Sean, since the overtime win against Moreno Valley the Eagles have stuck it to Fontana (53-14), Rialto (50-8), and Rim of the World (35-0). What are you guys doing so well on defense to dominate the opposition the way that you have?

“The whole team is involved on defense. We are flying to the ball. We have over six players with 40 or more tackles this year.”

How have the last three games gone for you personally?

“It is going well. It could be better; I am seeing more double-teams and they are running away from me. When I get a chance, I get the big hit. They game plan and scheme away from me – it could be going better.”

What skills are you working on every day in practice that are showing up more and more in games?

“Reading my keys, my technique, and my hand-placement. I want to give a shout out to Coach Maxwell, my position coach. I want to give him props for coaching me up and keeping me technically sound during games.”

On Friday, the Eagles get another big game against San Gorgonio in a San Andreas League showdown. What are you expecting from their offense?

“We expect them to pass the ball. They have a good quarterback and a high-octane offense. We have to be very disciplined to win the game.”

If all goes as planned on Friday and you defeat San Gorgonio, what is the next big game for the Eagles?

“The next game will be in the playoffs.”

Before I let you go, quick recruiting question. Last time we spoke you had Florida, Northern Arizona, and UTEP showing interest. Have any new schools started looking into you lately?

“Yes. I am receiving interest from and have talked to Penn State.”

That’s great. Sean, great catching up with you today and good luck against San Gorgonio.

“Thank you.”
