The coaches at the Elite 11 Regional in California (March 7) got to see and work with one of the more overlooked quarterbacks in the 2021 recruiting class – Matthew Geeting. Geeting has it all, size (6-5, 200), arm strength, mobility, technique, and an understanding for the game. The rise for the quarterback has been quick after completing his first starting season at the varsity level in 2019. The Chino Hills leader slung the rock hitting 205 of 354 passes for 2,520 yards with 27 touchdowns earning All-League and All-CIF honors.

As interest continues to mount for the three-star (QB Hit List) prospect, I sat down with the California native covering his performance at the camp with an update on his recruiting.

Interview

Matt, last weekend you got to sling it at the Elite 11 Regional in California. What did you do to prepare for the camp?

“I worked out with my QB coach. He has helped out with that camp before. He helped me with the drills and told me what they are looking for at that camp. I practiced those for that camp.”

What were the drills you prepared for ahead of time?

“Footwork drills, figure-eight, pocket movement, stepping up, and awkward throws.”

What were some of the drills they put you guys through to test your skills?

“Same thing. It was mostly a showcase of pocket movement to a throw. You move, escape then make an awkward throw. They were specific about where they wanted it and where your feet are.”

Which of the drills do you think you performed your best?

“The Pro Day circuit. I was on with my ball placement. My feet were good and so was my ball placement.”

The competition factor is a big part of any football camp. How do you feel you competed against your peers at the regional?

“Great. I was in the No. 1 group with all the top guys holding a lot of offers. Not having an offer, I was holding my own. I was not last in the pack with all the big names.”

Among all the coaches in attendance is a great database of information for quarterbacks. What were some of the things you learned that will help you going forward?

“When I was doing the now drill, kick your foot up to protect yourself. I was moving my shoulders, not going through with my feet. I learned to keep my follow through in the pocket and some other technical things.”

Are there any camps coming up where you will showcase the skills again?

“There are a couple of local camps, satellite camps, and some school camps like Sacramento State and one in Texas with a bunch of the Ivy League schools I may attend.”

With schools in mind, which programs are showing interest after the Elite 11 performance?

“A lot of Ivy League schools like Harvard, Yale, and Cornell. Toledo, Eastern Washington, Rice, Montana State, Sacramento State, and Cal-Poly are also showing interest.”

When the campuses open back up, are you planning to visit any programs?

“Yes. All the schools that are interested in me. I am going to Sacramento State again and San Diego State is a school I really want to go to. We are not set on where to go, but we have a plan on going places.”

Understood. Matthew, thanks for your time today and congratulations on you showing out at the Elite 11 Regional.

“Thank you.”
