So it seems, when the recruiting rush came on for Class of 2021 Louisiana receiver Jack Bech it came in a hurry. With 20 offers in hand, the week leading up to Halloween 2020 would be a life changing one for Bech. One that ended with him verbally committing to the LSU Tigers.

There is a great reason college football programs across the country have offered Bech, he is as prolific as it gets. During the 2019 season, he pulled in 91 passes for 1,668 yards with 20 scores for St. Thomas More (Lafayette) as the Cougars posted a 11-2 record. The Cougars are off to a 5-0 start ranked fourth in The Sportsman’s Paradise seeing their 6-2, 215-pound target fight through double and triple teams for 589 yards on 27 receptions with 10 touchdowns.

That week leading up to All Hallows Eve brought offers from Mississippi State, TCU, Texas, Notre Dame, and LSU. With his dream offer in-hand, on Oct. 28, Bech decommitted from Vanderbilt announcing his new decision on Nov. 1.

To fill in the blanks between offer and commitment, Bech came by the RNG Lab for another conversation.

Interview

Jack, I’ll start off being the one millionth person to congratulate you today on your commitment to LSU.

Thank you.

If you will, walk us through the recruiting process between you and LSU from interest, to offer, and then commitment.

It has always been a dream of mine to play football at LSU. I have been going there since I was a child watching them play in Death Valley with 100,000 fans. In my mind, I was to play there no matter what. A couple of weeks ago the recruiting picked up heavy. They called me one morning, it was their receivers’ coach, Coach (Mickey) Joseph, their running backs’ coach, Coach (Kevin) Faulk, and then Coach O (Ed Orgeron) got on the phone; he offered me. I didn’t know for sure what I was going to do at that time, but I figured I would go to Baton Rouge. I prayed on it for a few days and put in God’s hands, and then I decided to commit.

How do they see you fitting into their offensive scheme?

They see me as a player on the outside, some inside at slot, and as a key blocker. They are not afraid to put me in the box to use my strength to block in an H-back role. When I get there, they see me playing all three positions and playing them well. I want on the field as early as possible. It is time to get down to it.

When did you verbally commit to the Tigers’ coaching staff?

Friday morning.

Who did you tell first on their staff?

Coach O.

How did you tell Coach O? What did you say to him?

I told him I think the time has come, it is time for me to be a Tiger and continue the family legacy. I told him that I was committing to them.

The minutes before you got on the call and while you were talking to the coach before telling him you want to be a Tiger, what were you feeling? What was going through your mind?

I was nervous and excitement for sure.

Knowing that you will get to stay in-state for college at a Power 5 program, how does it feel?

It feels awesome. Being a kid from Louisiana, the goal is to play at LSU, that is every kid’s dream. It is awesome and the work is just getting started.

What did you do to celebrate your commitment?

I went to my uncle’s house in Baton Rouge; that is where I released the video. His house is the middle point for our family from New Orleans to Lafayette. I released the video there with everyone.

Jack, thanks again for your time and, again, congratulations on your commitment to LSU.

Thank you, sir.
