College football programs seeking a versatile receiver that can essentially line up anywhere with the ability to take the top off of a defense have fallen in love with Ketron Jackson (6-1.25, 187). The Royse City High School standout blistered 5A Texas defenses a season ago with his sub-4.4 speed hauling in 61 passes for 889 yards with nine scores and carried the rock six times for 85 more yards. The off the field results for the four-star recruit has been 24 offers laid out in front of him. On May 16th, a Top 14 was released and then on June 3rd a Top 7 was shared by Jackson. The heat is rising on Jackson’s recruitment with potential official visits earmarked along with a possible August commitment date.

Jackson returns to the RNG Lab to update us on his workouts and the tightening of his recruiting process.

Interview

Ketron, when we last spoke you were going at it hard with a trainer preparing for the 2020 season with a big focus on your route running and footwork. How is that part of your game coming along?

“It is coming along good. I went yesterday to workout; I am polishing my routes and working on getting in and out of my breaks – still working on all that right now.”

Considering you posted a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, I don’t know that it is possible to get any better, but what have you been doing to boost your speed and agility?

“My strength and conditioning coach at school gives us lunges, squats, and sprint workouts to do that helps build speed. I have a mini sled that I run with at the middle school field to help my resistance training. All that helps build my speed.”

Throughout the offseason, what have you been doing to add muscle and strength to your style of play?

“If I am not working out at school, I am working out at home. I have dumb bells I use and I do push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups. I do all those most days and use the dumb bells for squats.”

Have you been watching film on collegiate or NFL receivers to learn more about the game? If so, who are you watching and what are you trying to learn from them?

“I am not watching as much as I was, but I have been watching a few. Lately I have been watching Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault. I talked to the Colorado coaches about Laviska, he was a hard-working player for Colorado. Their coach told me to look up a few of their games, I watched his good and bad; he is a very explosive player. I watched what he was doing and added some of that to my game.”

There was a possibility of you playing safety this season, what have you been doing since we last spoke to prepare for that role?

“A few drills. I try to mix in some defensive drills after my offensive drills are completed, some backpedals and coming out of the breaks. I have been doing some of the little stuff to get ready, my team may need it. We are doing a crossover where most of our offensive player cross over in practice to the defensive side and the defense to the offense. Our offense will be strong this year.”

Let’s talk recruiting. Are any schools showing interest or have they all offered already?

“Florida, they are the only school showing interest that has not offered yet. They are still texting daily.”

How many offers are you now holding?

“Twenty-four.”

Jackson’s Reported Offer Sheet: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Penn State, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech

Which program was the last to offer?

“My latest was Penn State.”

Nice. Before the campuses were restricted you took visits to Baylor, A&M, and Arkansas. Once things get going again are there any schools on your travel list official or unofficial?

“Yes. I am trying to take official visits to Colorado and Oregon State because of the travel. I am still deciding which other three I will take.”

On June 3, you put out a Top 7 of Texas A&M, Arkansas, SMU, Oregon State, Texas, Colorado, and TCU. Has anything changed with that list?

“No. I still talk to all the schools on there, but Texas A&M and SMU, I am not talking to them as much.”

Back in April the idea then was you may commit sooner than later all depending on going back to school and the football season. Where are you at now with a possible commitment date?

“It is still the same, and it is all about the visits, if I am able to take them after the season. If we can’t take visits this fall, I might do it before the season. If there are no visits, I don’t know if I will wait it out. Most of the schools are holding a spot for me, I don’t have to rush.”

That’s good. Ketron, thanks for your time today as always. Keep up the hard work this summer.

“Thank you.”
