If California offenses were not already afraid of defensive end Jeremiah Calvin, they now have 250 reasons to be afraid. After earning MaxPreps All-American honors during the 2019 season with John Muir, Calvin has gone beast mode in the weight room now stretching the tap at nearly 6-4 and tipping the scale at a svelte 250 pounds.

Calvin wrapped his freshman season playing at the varsity level compiling 27 tackles with five sacks, four tackles for a loss, four QB hurries, a pick-six, four passes broken up, and a forced fumble with one loose pigskin reclaimed. Three offers have come in, including one from Washington State, for the four-star prospect with programs nationally awaiting seeing him during the 2020 season.

In another RNG meeting, Calvin details his workouts with a look at possible 2021 recruiting visits.

Interview

Jeremiah, let’s update the offseason workouts. How are they going?

They are going good. I have been consistent with my workouts, not taking any breaks. They said we are playing league games this season. I am now transitioning to actual pads.

What have you been doing to add more power and strength to your game?

A lot of heavy lifting. I have been doing cleans, bench, squats – everything to build your body up. And the ab wheel; (laughs) that hurts.

With the heavy lifting, have you added weight?

Yes. The lifting and from what I have been eating, I am building up my frame. I am now weighing 250 pounds.

Which exercise are you doing to increase your speed and agility with the added weight?

Honestly, I can’t explain them. I am doing next level training. I am doing all the stuff my dad has me doing. He has me going up the hill doing sprints against a high incline so that on a straight away I am a lot faster. He has me running full-speed up hill.

Have you posted a new 40 with the extra weight?

Yes, I ran a 4.6.

Nice. Last we spoke you were working on some new moves as a defender. Any update from the Lab on that work?

I am strong as heck right now, strong as an ox. Just get me on the field and let me do what I do. The strength with the technique makes everything easy.

What are some other technique pieces you’ve been fine-tuning?

I will be playing some slot this year, inside and outside. They have me another big receiver who is 6-3, 215, in the slot on the inside with our smaller receivers on the outside. I am making sure that I am coming down with the ball and that my deep ball and jump balls are towards 90-10.

Are you playing 7v7, club sports, or going to camps for extra work?

There was a camp invited to that I might go to in San Diego.

Let’s close on recruiting. You have the three offers; which schools are showing interest?

Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Arizona, North Carolina, UNLV, New Mexico, Tennessee, Michigan, and Georgia.

Are there any visits you may take when the dead period is over?

I know I will see Mississippi State for sure. Right now, I am not sure of any others. I might see Notre Dame, but for sure Mississippi State.

Jeremiah, I enjoyed getting the update with you. Truly cannot wait to see you on the field this season.

Thank you, sir.
