The blur wearing jersey No. 24 who was all over the field during the 2017 season for Eisenhower High School (Rialto) was Oshea Davis. Davis shinned on defense in the Eagles secondary at corner coming up with 48 stops with a tackle for a loss and two picks on the stat sheet. The 5-10, 173-pound, playmaker dabbled on the offensive side of the ball at running back with 21 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown in stats collected through 10 games. The play on the field and a spring filled with 7v7 ball on Ground Zero’s squad has helped push Davis up recruiting boards along the west coast. Oregon State, Nevada, Northern Arizona, and Utah are among the schools taking a second look at the California talent. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Davis to learn more about his junior campaign and offseason workouts.

Interview

Oshea, you made a lot of plays last season on defense, how did your junior season go overall?

“Last season was good for me. Of my three years on varsity, that was my best season. As a team, we came together. We did not do well, but we are building. I believe this will be our best year in my time at Eisenhower.”

What are some of the strengths of your game on defense?

“My coverage and my zone. I locked up like I was supposed to last season. I played for my team, not for myself.”

How are your offseason workouts coming along?

“They are going great. I have been working with Ground Zero. Working with Coach Brown, I have been learning more technique. This offseason, I have been gaining weight and I’m getting taller – (laughs) and I am getting some sleep.”

Sleep is always good. Where are you seeing the biggest growth in your game?

“I am seeing the biggest growth with my eyes. I am seeing where the wideouts are going. Now, I am sitting in my zone and anticipating better than last year. I have gotten more picks than before. I’ve been running track this spring. My speed is a lot better. I’m good at driving down on the ball right now.”

Where all will we see you on the field during your senior year?

“You will see me on special teams at kick and punt return. You might also see me some at safety and at running back.”

What is the best 40-yard dash time you’ve posted?

“My best is a 4.5.”

Have any schools come by to see you in-person during spring practice?

“Yes. Utah, Nevada, and Northern Arizona – they said they liked me a lot, have all come by.”

There may be some overlap here, but, if you will, list out the schools that are showing interest in you.

“Utah, Northern Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon State are showing interest.”

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet?

“I visited Utah.”

How did the Utah visit go?

“It went great. I like it up there; it is beautiful up there.”

Do you have plans to attend any camps this summer?

“I am planning on attending camps with Oregon in Oregon, USC, San Diego State, and a Washington State camp at Redlands.”

Are you competing in any other sports for Eisenhower?

“Track.”

Which events?

“The 200 and 100.”

Of the two, which is your best event?

“The 100 is my best.”

What is the best time you’ve posted in the 100?

“My best during a meet is 11.09, but my best ever was a 10.8 hand-timed.”

Last question. What goals have you set for yourself for the 2018 season?

“My goal is to lock up my side – no one scores on me and everyone does their job. This season, I plan on getting more interceptions and winning the championship.”

Oshea, I appreciate your time today. Good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts and with the upcoming camps.

“Thank you.”
