Daeonte Mitchell has one more year at Wichita East High School, but he has already written the quarterback record books in the city of Wichita. Through his first three seasons, Mitchell has 7,200 all-purpose yards including 2,279 passing yards, 862 rushing yards and 31 total touchdowns in 2022.

The 6’1”, 210-pound, playmaker plays with great toughness, field vision, and leadership. Mitchell also possesses a tremendous arm to make throws all over the field. The Class of 2024 recruit is drawing interest from numerous colleges including Missouri and Princeton; it’s just a matter of time until he reels in his first college offer.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Daeonte to talk about his junior season and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

What are your thoughts on your junior season?

The season was great. It could have ended on championship Saturday, but we still have some work to do including my own game.

What was your most memorable moment in 2022?

In the first game against Washburn Rural, I threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to my receiver for a walk-in touchdown to put us on top.

What are your thoughts on your individual performance this season?

It was a good. I was more of a leader this year, I held myself and my teammates accountable.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My arm and I’m smart on the field. I also have great play making ability.

Would you consider yourself a dual-threat or pro style quarterback?

Definitely a dual-threat; 22 of my 88 total touchdowns over the last three seasons have been on the ground.

Is there an NFL quarterback that you try to model your game after?

Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson, I do some things that they all do.

What are you going to work on the most this off-season to prepare for your senior year?

I want to get bigger, faster, and stronger. I’ll be working with my new trainer, Damien Williams, to improve. I was invited to the Army combine in Texas in December so I’m looking forward to putting on a show there.

Are you receiving interest from any colleges?

North Dakota State, Princeton, Kansas, Missouri, and UTEP are showing the most interest right now. I’ve already been to Missouri, and I plan to go to Princeton. I’m open to hearing from other schools.

What do you want to study in college?

I want to get my business degree.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

I run track.

What are your goals for the rest of your career at Wichita East?

It’s championship or bust for me next year. I already have most of the city records for a quarterback so I’m working hard to get a state title.

What is your GPA?

3.8.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you, sir.
