Blue Valley North finished the 2019 season 5-6 reaching the state quarterfinals before falling 21-20 to Blue Valley. They overcame the odds advancing to the quarterfinals by relying on the weapons in their offense which averaged over 22 points a game last year. One of the explosive play-makers who will return in 2020 is star receiver/tight end Theo Grabill.

This 6’2”, 190-pound, athlete snagged 79 passes for over 800 yards with 12 touchdowns despite missing two games due to a knee injury. After the season, Grabill was named All-State honorable mention. Grabill uses his sizes and athleticism to grab any ball thrown in his direction. He also uses his speed to outrun defenders on his way to the end zone.

This Class of 2021 recruit currently holds five college offers including ones from Florida Atlantic and Nevada and is also drawing interest from several other notable college programs including Kansas State and Louisiana Tech. Grabill not only stars on the football team but also on the track team where he runs the 100, 200, and 400. In the classroom, he currently holds a 3.4 GPA.

In a Recruiting News Guru catch-up interview, I sat down with the Mustangs star to discuss his junior season at Blue Valley North and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Theo, what are your thoughts on the 2020 season overall?

“The 2020 season was good but we didn’t finish it off with a championship which is always the goal.”

How would you grade your individual performance last year and why?

“My individual performance was good. I didn’t start off real fast but by the end of the season I got a lot more comfortable in the offense and had six touchdowns in the last two games.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“My strengths on the football field are my routes, hands, and will to win.”

What was your most memorable moment?

“The most memorable moment was beating Gardner 41-42 in a game. I had three touchdowns in that game to help advance us in the playoffs.”

Did you win any individual honors after the season?

“All-State honorable mention.”

What type of challenges did you face last season?

“My biggest challenge was hurting my knee against Mill Valley and missing the next two games.”

How did you overcome these challenges?

“I overcame this by getting a chance to really just watch the offense be ran and learning it better than I had previously known it. When I came back, I had nine touchdowns in our last four games after I only having three in the first four games of the season.”

What is your workout and practice schedule during the offseason?

“In the offseason, I get up at 5:00 every morning and go workout at 6:00 and then come home and have a little recovery time. After that, then I have another workout or two later.”

What are you working on the most to improve your game?

“I’m working to improve my speed the most.”

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?

“I was working with former 100-meter champion Maurice Greene, he helped me get from a 4.69 to a 4.48.”

Is there a current NFL player that you try to model your game after?

“The player I model my game after the most is Michael Thomas or Adam Theilen.”

What do you like most about playing wide receiver and tight end?

“My favorite thing about it is getting to beat a man one-on-one and scoring.”

Do you have any college offers?

“I have five offers from Florida Atlantic, Nevada, Yale, Cornell and Missouri State.”

What other schools are showing you interest at this time?

“Louisiana Tech, Kansas State, and Rice.”

Do you play any other sports in high school?

“I run the 100, 200, and 400 on the track team.”

What is your favorite subject and why?

“My favorite subject is English because I get to research things I’m interested in and write about them.”

What is your GPA?

“3.4.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career and why?

“The people who have had the biggest impact on my football career are Terry Fenton, Jermaine Saffold, Al Hobson, Maurice Greene and Luther Glover.”

Do you have a favorite quote?

“My Favorite quote is, “Do it without any applause or recognition, and keep going”.”

What do you like most about playing at Blue Valley North?

“The thing I love the most is the coaches, teammates, and fans.”

Do you have any early goals for your senior season?

“The goal for next year is a championship and nothing less.”

Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.

“Thank you, sir.”
