Breylon Charles is going to be one of the next high school stars out of Louisiana to make the leap to the college football level as the senior defensive end has already committed to Lamar University. The 6’5”, 250-pound, beast, who currently stars at Destrehan High School, has tremendous speed, strength and athleticism to burst opposing offensive lines wreaking havoc in the backfield and in the trenches. Charles also has good footwork and intensity.

While talking about his commitment to Lamar, Charles excitedly explained, “It’s a great school and they offer mechanical engineering which is what I want to get a degree in. The coaches are very excited about my commitment.”

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Breylon to talk about his commitment to Lamar and talk about his senior season at Destrehan.

Interview

Breylon, how would you grade your individual performance so far this season?

I would have to give myself an A-minus.

What are your strengths on the football field?

I am a great pass rusher and I have a lot of heart. I don’t back down from anyone.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?

I’m aggressive, smart, and disciplined.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?

I always encourage my teammates and never talk down on them because you never know what someone else is going through in their life.

What is one area of your game have you seen the most improvement in since the start of the offseason?

My ability to shake the offense tackle on a pass rush move so there’s less contact, and less contact pass rushes means faster.

Is there a current NFL player that you try to model your game after?

I try and model my two idol players, Cam Jordan and Von Miller, and I believe I’m a combination of both of them.

What are your maxes in the weight room?

My max bench is 265, my max squat is 465, and my max power clean is 200.

What kind of defensive scheme does Destrehan run?

Here at Destrehan we run 3-down linemen and an outside linebacker that plays on and off the line.

What are your goals for the rest of your senior season?

My ultimate goal for my senior year is getting more Power Five offers and graduating.

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

Seeing my family and I in the position we are in now really makes me strive to do more and be more. And my mom, she also pushes and motivates me to be the best I can be on and off the field.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I see myself on someone’s NFL roster and playing professional football.

Now let’s talk about your commitment to Lamar, what do you like most about that school?

I committed to Lamar because it’s a great school and they offer what I want to get a degree in which is mechanical engineering.

What was the coaches’ reaction to your commitment?

The coaches were very excited about my commitment and they are still very excited, they call me every day.

Do you have any other college offers?

I have offers from Purdue, UAB, Houston Baptist, Arkansas-Pine Blue, Arkansas-Monticello, Coffeyville CC, and Butler CC.

Are there any other schools showing you interest?

A lot of schools have shown interest including Louisiana Tech, Tulane, Mississippi State, McNeese State, and South Alabama.

What is your GPA?

3.3.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

One of my favorite quotes from the Bible is, “For God gave us spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (II Timothy 1:7)
