After his father, Rohan, starred at LSU playing quarterback in the NFL and the Arena Football League, Micah Davey is well on his way to making his own leap to the collegiate level. In 2019, this star linebacker racked up 132 total tackles including seven for a loss, three sacks, three interceptions and one forced fumble during his junior season while University Lab defense gave up just 15 points a game. After the season, Davey won numerous individual honors including first team All-District helping lead the Cubs to a 9-5 record and an appearance in the Division II state playoffs.

This 6’2”, 230-pound, tackle machine has tremendous sideline to sideline quickness and speed to make plays all over the field. Davey also possesses great agility, footwork and athleticism. The Class of 2021 recruit currently holds two college offers and is also drawing interest from several in-state schools including Louisiana Tech.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Micah to discuss his junior season and give an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Micah, what are your thoughts on the 2019 season?

“The 2019 season went well although it didn’t end how we wanted it to. We were a young team last year due to us losing a lot of seniors the season before but we were learning and growing as the season went on.”

How would you grade your individual performance and why?

“I think I did well as a first-year starter and I learned a lot about myself and my team that we can build upon next season.”

What are your strengths on the gridiron?

“One of my strengths is being able to read and react quickly to the offense and make the play.”

In your opinion, what made you and your teammates gel together as you only allowed 15 points a game as a unit?

“As a unit we all were able to go in with a good game plan, execute and have each other’s back, and we played for each other because we have a strong bond on and off the field.”

What was your most memorable moment in your junior season?

“My most memorable moment was the road trip to Vandebilt Catholic (Houma, LA) because we were able to bond on the way there and come away with a win as well.”

Did you earn any individual honors last year?

“Yes, I received first team All-District, first team All-Metro, honorable mention All-State, and first team All-State coaches’ selection.”

What was the toughest challenge that you faced last season?

“Being a leader and getting all the other first-year starters on defense adapted to the varsity game speed.”

How did you overcome this challenge?

“A lot of time, effort, and focus and great coaching all contributed to us being the unit we were last year.”

What is your practice and workout schedule during the offseason?

“My practice and workout schedule during the off-season consists of a lot of constant and consistent practice, film study, and eating right.”

What are you working on the most to improve your game?

“I am working mostly on open-field agility and improving my flexibility.”

What are your maxes in the weight room?

“My max bench is 285, my max clean is 290, and my max squat is 415.”

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?

“There isn’t a particular player I try to model my game after but I do look at players like Ray Lewis and Devin White.”

Do you currently have any college offers?

“Yes, I currently have two college offers from Louisiana College and Prairie View A&M.”

What other schools are you receiving interest from at this time?

“I am currently receiving interest from Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, and Louisiana Tech and I am thankful for all of these great institutions that show interest in me as a student-athlete.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My late grandfather, because as a young child he motivated me and encouraged me to see whatever I start to the end and give it 100 percent.”

What do you like most about playing at University Lab?

“I love how supportive the teachers and coaches are about my future not just as a player but as a young man as well.”

What is your GPA?

“My junior year cumulative GPA is a 3.1.”

Do you have a favorite quote?

“My favorite quote is from the movie Rocky, “It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.””

Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.

“Thank you, sir.”
