Louisiana Football: Interview with 2023 Haughton All-District LB Connor Blank

In his first year as a starter, Connor Blank burst onto the scene for Haughton Buccaneers. During his junior campaign, this middle linebacker had 82 total tackles including nine for a loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, one interception and one forced fumble.
This 6’1”, 215-pound, tackle machine is a ball hunter on the field and plays with great intensity and physicality. Blank also has good strength and size.
This class of 2023 has performed well at numerous college camps including Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette so it’s only a matter of time before his recruiting process.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Connor to talk about his junior season at Haughton High School.

Connor, what are your thoughts on your junior season?
I think my junior year was solid, especially for my first year starting.
What was your most memorable moment in 2021?
When I got an interception against Airline in a close game, and we got a big win.
What area of your game did you see improve the most over the course of the season?
My aggression, because I got better at finding the ball and going head up against lineman and hitting people where it hurt.
What are your strengths on the football field?
Knowing what’s going on and how to fix things when things need to be fixed and just knowing where the ball is going.
How would you describe your style of play?
I’m a ball hunter. I’m not afraid to hit anyone.
What kind of defensive scheme does Haughton run?
We run a 3-4 scheme.
How do your skills fit into this scheme?
Middle linebackers are important in this scheme because we fill gaps and stop the run. And this year I feel like I did that well.
Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?
No one from the NFL, but I like to watch Malcolm Rodriguez, who is currently at Oklahoma State.
What are your maxes in the weight room?
My max bench is 300, my max squat is 405, and my max clean is 225.
What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?
4.7.
Do you play any other sports at Haughton High School?
I also play baseball.
What is your GPA?
3.8.
Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?
“I don’t fear anyone, except God.”
