In the opening of 4A Louisiana playoff action, several teams pulled off the upset including No. 26 Belle Chasse over No. 7 George Washington and No. 22 Landry-Walker taking down No. 11 Cecilia. These two teams are wreaking havoc in the bottom of the bracket while the top half saw all the top teams advance to the second round.

Defending champion Edna Karr started their title defense with a shutout win while No. 1 Carencro earned a first-round bye due to their scheduled opponent dealing with COVID-19. It will be exciting to see if these top two seeds are on a collision course to meet in the title game or will we see more upsets throughout the rest of the tournament.

Among the 16 rosters are several stars ready to take their team to the quarterfinals and one step closer to the top of the 4A mountain. These players include Edna Karr senior wide receiver Destyn Hill and offensive tackle Kenneth Bannister (Louisiana Tech commit), Landry-Walker senior linebacker Josh Bertholotte (Hawaii commit) and senior wide receiver Cyrus Allen (Louisiana Tech commit), Warren Easton senior wide receiver Casey Cain (Texas commit), Carencro senior running back Kendrell Williams (Louisiana-Lafayette commit), Neville junior offensive tackle Will Campbell and junior cornerback Lorenzell Dubose, Huntington senior quarterback J’rell Joseph and junior cornerback De’Kelvion Beamon (Oklahoma State commit).

Only eight teams will move on to the quarterfinals. Which teams can take that next step toward the state title? Only time will tell.
