Hutch Grace burst onto the scene in 2021 as the young hard-hitting safety racked up 56 total tackles including six for a loss, eight interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in his sophomore season.

The Class of 2024 attended several camps this summer and worked hard on the practice field and in the weight room to hone craft as he prepared for his junior season which kicks off Sept. 3 against Logansport. Before the season, Grace was also named Shreveport Times Preseason Player of the Year.

This 6’1”, 205-pound, tackle machine plays with good footwork and speed while possessing a keen eye for the ball and a high football IQ.

In exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Hutch to talk about his preparations for his junior season and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

What have you been working on the most this offseason?

I had a knee injury in the quarterfinal game in last year’s playoffs, so a lot of my work involved footwork, speed and getting stronger in the upper body.

How was your first scrimmage game last night?

Our defense played good, some underclassmen stepped up and proved themselves.

Did you attend any camps?

Arkansas State and Louisiana Tech.

Which camp did you like the best and why?

Arkansas State, because I saw more athletes and it was just really fun.

Are you drawing interest from any colleges?

I have a few coaches that are heavily interested in me.

What are your personal and team goals for the 2022 season?

My personal goals are to have 115-plus tackles and double-digit interceptions. My team goals include winning state and growing together as a team and not worry about myself.

Do you have a game on the schedule that you’re most looking forward too?

Captain Shreve and C.E. Byrd, they’re both 5A schools. I want to show people that we can take on anybody and still win.

Did you receive any individual honors?

I received First Team All-District, First Team All-City, and First Team All-State. In baseball I received First Team All-District in the outfield.

Do you have an NFL player that you try to model your game after?

Tim Tebow, both on and off the field, is a role model of mine.

Do you play any other sports?

I play pitcher and outfield on the baseball team.

What was your favorite subject and why?

Apologetics, it’s a Bible class and it’s really eye opening to me.

What is your GPA?

4.0.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

Ephesians 6:7.

Thank you for your time and good luck this season.

Thank you, sir.
