The Bulldogs of Grandview High School had a rollercoaster season finishing 5-6 advancing to the second round of the Missouri state playoffs where they suffered a heartbreaking loss to Harrisonville. During the 2017 season, Grandview scored on average 19.5 points a game using their balanced offensive attack, but gave up 21.8 points a game on defense adding to the up and down year. On National Signing Day, dreams will come true with five players signing a letter of intent to play college football.

On Wednesday, Grandview will see five seniors depart the program and sign to continue their career at the collegiate level. The leaders include Shane Cherry (Kansas State), Cartez Crook-Jones (Kansas State), Verrell Garrett (Iowa Western Community College), TeAndre Skinner (Fort Scott Community College) and Javon Williams (Northwest Missouri State).

Shane Cherry committed to Kansas State on Dec. 10 after posting on twitter, “I have received an offer from my dream school.” The 6’5”, 300 pound, offensive tackle chose the Wildcats over several other schools including Missouri State and Western Illinois. After the season, Cherry was named second team All-Conference

Cartez Crook-Jones committed to the Kansas State Wildcats on Dec. 10, one day after de-committing from the University of Kansas, thus switching sides in the Sunflower Showdown. The 6’5”, 230 pound, defensive end was also being recruited by Arkansas and Missouri. Crook-Jones used his athleticism to rush around the edge and disrupt plays in opponents’ backfield.

Verrell Garrett will be signing with Iowa Western Community College after committing to them on Jan. 25. The 5’8”, 175 pound, speedster made big plays in the Bulldogs all season long. Garrett used his fancy footwork and athleticism to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact.

TeAndre Skinner was the senior leader in the Bulldogs linebacker corps. The 6’1”, 215 pound, beast used his quickness, strength and athleticism to make big tackles and was named first team All-Conference after the season. Skinner also had an offer from Valparaiso University.

Javon Williams played both wide receiver and defensive back for the Bulldogs. After the season, the 6’1”, 175 pound, playmaker was named first team All-State and first team All-Conference for his play in the secondary and earned second team All-Conference honors at wide receiver. On Dec. 10, 2017, Javon committed to Northwest Missouri State.

Despite the Bulldogs losing these five seniors to the collegiate level the future bright for Grandview High School on the football field.
