Cameron Lawson was having a breakout season for the Liberty Blue Jays before a leg injury derailed the rest of his season. The junior offensive tackle will be medically cleared next month, and is already setting goals of things he will achieve this offseason as he prepares for his senior year. At 6-5, 240-pounds, Lawson is extremely athletic with good quickness and footwork while playing with great intensity. The growing talents of the Class of 2022 prospect is beginning to draw recruiting interest from Pittsburgh State leading to an exciting offseason when other schools will take notice of this talented offensive lineman.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Cameron to talk about his junior season at Liberty and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

How would you grade your individual performance during your junior season?
I’d give myself a B, because we did well as a unit. I only played in six-and-a-half games due to a broken tibia and fibula but I’ll be cleared to play basketball at the end of December.

What are your strengths on the field?
With my athleticism, I can get off the ball and block anywhere. I also have good quickness.

What would you say was your best game?
Columbia Rock Bridge, because I feel I was more aggressive and things started to click.

What are your maxes in the weight room?
My max bench is 245, my max squat is 350, and my max power clean is 240.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?
Aggressive. I’m very athletic but I want to beat my opponents.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?
I’m a leader. I can be a calming voice in chaos so we get our minds straight.

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?
I just try to pick things up during whatever games I’m watching. There is no one specific.

Do you play any sports in high school besides football?
I’m a forward on the basketball team and I threw the javelin the last two years on the track team.

What is your favorite thing about playing at Liberty?
I’m close with a lot of my teammates and it’s so fun to go out and play with them. Football takes my mind off so many other things.

What is your favorite subject in school?
Psychology, because it interests me the most.

Who has had the biggest impact on your high school career?
My uncle Jeremy Martin, who played for Kansas State. He pushes me to always be better.

What are your goals for the offseason?
I want to get my weight up and get as athletic and strong as I possibly can before my senior season.

What is your GPA?
3.9.

Are there any schools showing you interest at this time?
Pittsburgh State.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?
The Rocky Balboa quote, “It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.”

Thank you for your time today.
Thank you, sir.
