Offensive lineman Rod Green has wrapped up his high school career at Springfield High School and has announced his commitment to Grambling State in Louisiana on Jan. 12. The athletic big man made the announcement surrounded by his supportive family on his high school field.

The 6’5”, 305-pound, monster in the trenches helped his team finish 9-2 in his senior season making an appearance in the state semifinals. The three-star lineman, one of the top lineman in Ohio, narrowed his list to Eastern Kentucky, Missouri State, and Grambling State before ultimately choosing the Tigers.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Rod to talk about his commitment to Grambling State and how his recruiting process unfolded during a COVID stricken season.

Interview

Rod, what does it mean to you to commit to Grambling State?

It means a lot to commit to one of the best HBCU in the nation and in the SWAC. I’m blessed.

How did your commitment take place?

My family and I took a video, they were with me when I announced what university I would be attending.

Which coach did you commit too?

I committed to the whole staff.

What was their reaction to your commitment?

They were really excited and pumped about my commitment.

What were some of the factors that convinced you to attend Grambling State?

The coaches really seemed to care about me. They can help me both on and off the field, and help me to get to the next level. I like the brotherhood and I feel it will be a good fit for me. They are also one of the best HBCU and a top team in the SWAC.

What were some of your other top schools?

My top three schools were Grambling State, Eastern Kentucky, and Missouri State.

How did you handle the challenges of recruiting during a COVID-19-stricken season?

I was really patient. I put all my faith into God and I just kept grinding and staying focused.

Who has had the biggest impact on your high school football career?

My mom. She kept me going and she’s my motivation. I want to make her proud and I want her to see me make it in college and get to the NFL.

What do you want your legacy to be as you depart Springfield High School?

I always want to be known as a hard worker.

What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing at Grambling State?

I can’t wait to start working with the coaches and the team then compete for a SWAC championship. I also have plans to study to be a nurse practitioner but my ultimate goal is to make it to the NFL.

Thank you for your time today and good luck at Grambling State.

Thank you, sir.
