The four-star recruiting status for Class of 2021 receiver Beaux Collins has been earned the hard way, on the field and through relentless hours of hard offseason workouts. The towering 6-4.5, 205-pound, target was a key part of St. John Bosco’s 13-1 national championship season in 2019 (MaxPreps) pulling down 41 passes for 1,008 yards with 14 touchdowns. With national recruiting attention from every other Division-I college football program in the nation, Collins found the Clemson Tigers to be his ideal fit verbally committing on January 25. The decision will once again pair him with five-star Class of 2020 quarterback teammate DJ Uiagalelei.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with Collins for an update on his offseason workouts.

Interview

Beaux, how have the spring months gone for you adapting to the changes we are all experiencing while staying on top of your school work and workouts?

“Started off tough, but I have the hang of it now. I am waking up early, getting online for first part of the day for school and then getting in as many workouts in as possible in the afternoon; I’m staying active.”

Since the season ended what have you been working on with your game?

“I’ve been doing a lot of ball drills with tennis balls with my dad. Also, I am working on my hand-eye coordination; that is a top focus for me.”

During this time, what has been your daily workout routine?

“After I finish class I go into the backyard to workout. Luckily, I have a weight rack. I alternate days between upper and lower body. On Tuesday and Thursday, I ty to find a park to run routes.”

Since you have a weight rack, have you maxed lately?

“No, but I plan on doing that. I’ve been lifting for endurance adding mass.”

There will be a new starting quarterback at Bosco for the first time in three years this season. How are you developing chemistry, or how were you, with the new gunslingers fighting for that job in 2020?

“Before the quarantine, we were working with all the quarterbacks. We’d have throwing sessions after workouts working on getting timing down and knowing each other’s strength and weaknesses. One of the quarterbacks, Pierce Clarkson (2023) is there with me and a few other teammates at the park. It has been a great learning opportunity.”

Before we breakdown your current recruiting status, given your high-profile position as a top recruit, how did you handle all the attention and messages/calls what have you from college coaches? I just imagine a tidal wave of messages and phone calls that have come to you.

“I keep it in perspective. I try to answer and respond when I can to text messages. I do not let the hype get to my head. The goal is to maintain my focus on high school ball first and then college.”

How many offers have you piled up in total?

“Thirty-two.”

Collin’s Offer Sheet (32): Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Washington

Which programs were the last couple to offer?

“Stanford, Oklahoma, and Old Dominion – I know one of the coaches from Penn State who went there; he offered me.”

Over the last few months, before the dead period began, did you take any visits?

“Yes. I took a trip to Clemson for a Junior Day before I committed in January.”

Obviously, it went well, how did the trip to Clemson go?

“It was amazing. It was amazing meeting the coaches, players and other recruits they are looking and the other commits. I learned more information about the school itself during the visit.”

When do you plan on returning to Clemson?

“I was planning on going to the spring game, but that was cancelled. There is a Junior Day cookout in July, I am planning for that as well.”

Have you set your official to Clemson?

“Not yet. It will be in the fall sometime.”

Are you helping recruiting other players to join you in Clemson’s 2021 class?

“We have a group chat for Clemson recruits. We talk about video games and stuff like that, keeping it light.”

Last question, my virus buster. What is at least one thing you are looking forward to doing once the quarantine ends?

“Getting back with my teammates so we can start putting in a lot of work that has been lost during this time; keeping up that chemistry.”

Beaux, it is always great getting time in with you. Wishing you continued success with your workouts this spring.

“Thank you.”
