BRADENTON, Fla. – Going back to the 1980’s, 1990’s, and the early part of this millennium, the state of Arkansas would produce about one standout quarterback every three to four years. Over the last decade, the arm talent in the Natural State has exploded. College coaches from all over the country are keying in on Arkansas’ homegrown talent, and another one in line to be a national prospect is Titus Benson.

Benson (6-0, 174) will get to showcase his varsity chops this fall with Siloam Springs High School (Siloam) going against 6A competition.

Preparing for leveling up, the Class of 2029 prospect shared, “I’m working on my arm and legs. You have to stay strong and fast, especially as a dual threat quarterback. I have to be good on the run, especially at the varsity level. If something breaks down, I have to be able to run through the A, B, or C gap and get past the linebackers.

“We have a lot of new receivers; I’ve been working on my timing so we can be perfect, and I’ve been working on our checks for the protection slides.”

Running a Zone offense, Benson talked about how his skills fit the scheme, “I love having protection, all the linemen are going the same way; that helps when I roll out to throw. When we are doing RPO (run-pass option), our offense is great for that.”

Displaying his skills at the NXGN camp held at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), Benson was competing against some of the best gunslingers in the 2029 class.

“The NXGN camp is great; I love it,” Benson said. “I learned how to do a five-step drop more smoothly, and a three-step with no hitch. I was really successful doing the combine.”

Before slinging it in the Sunshine State, Benson was down in the Lone Star State competing against another group of top quarterbacks.

“I went to the Elite 11; that was really good,” Benson stated. “I think that is how I got invited to the NXGN camp. I was one of the top performers there in Dallas. It was a three-day camp. On the first day we did a bunch of drills. That’s where I learned more on the five-step drop and we did some combine drills. It was really fun.”

College coaches looking for that athlete in the pocket, Benson has that covered.

“I play basketball, football, and track,” Benson said.

Asked which events in track he competes in, a long list was shared, “I run six events. I run the 110 hurdles, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, 300 hurdles and the 4×1.”

The follow up, how many points are you tallying per meet?

“I usually score 58 points in each meet, and that’s normally the margin we win by,” Benson shared.

Before heading to Florida, Benson posted a 15.8 in the 110 hurdles.

When the summer heats up, Benson will take the arm on the road for college scouts.

“We are going to Arkansas’ 7-on-7 camp, Missouri’s, and Texas’,” Benson said.
