The 2017 recruiting campaign for Oregon’s football team has been far more lackluster than prolific, especially for a team given the Ducks’ recent success. The two commitments added to Oregon’s class were both four-stars but both secured in 2015. Now the class of two is down to one after Arizona quarterback Ryan Kelley decommitted from Oregon on Tuesday night.

The ever shifting landscape of college football recruiting sees its fair share of decommitments and change of hearts. Kelley (Chandler, AZ) changing his mind after committing to Oregon on Nov. 12 is nothing new in the recruiting world. Chances are Kelley may find a new school that he feels better suits his needs instead of coming back into Oregon’s fold putting a crunch on the Ducks’ staff to find a new gunslinger to be the new potential quarterback of the future.

Kelley posted his decommitment via Twitter reading:

Ryan Kelley statement

The list of top rated pro-style quarterbacks has shrunk dramatically with Ty Brock (College Station, TX), Cam Roane (Colleyville, TX), and Tyler Lytle (Anaheim, CA) being among the few left. The list of dual-threat quarterbacks remaining is far more wide open and more than likely to the needs of Oregon’s offense. Some of the remaining includes Braxton Burmeister (La Jolla, CA), Jack Sears (San Clemente, CA), Jaylen Gipson (Mexia, TX), Connor Curry (Shreveport, LA), Taylor Powell (Fayetteville, AR), and Kaymen Cureton (Lawndale, CA), just to name a few. Even though there is a lot of talent out there, the fit between said player and Oregon or Oregon and said player is not necessarily a given.

Not all news is updated regularly, but the only reported offer Oregon has put out there to a quarterback, per 247Sports, is to Kelley. The recruiting progress with other quarterbacks to fill the void should Kelley ever have a change of heart is unknown at this time.

Kelley has a lot of great offers on the table with Arizona State, Nebraska, Michigan State, Washington State, UCLA, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Oregon State, Central Florida, North Carolina, Cal, and Washington all wanting him at the next level. Arizona State is having a big recruiting weekend coming up… stay tuned on that news.

Oregon’s lone verbal commitment to the 2017 class is defensive end Langu Tuifua (6-3, 205), a four-star from South Jordan, Utah. There is a lot of time between now and National Signing Day for the Ducks to pull together a great class but the start out of the gate has to make even the most even-keel Oregon fans a little bit anxious.
