If the game of football is a parallel for life, Erasmus Hall wide receiver Sean Ryan reminds the opposition that life is not always fair, and smiles while he does it. The 6-3.5, 193 pound, playmaker appears to be the total package wrapping his God given size and athleticism into a talent that has been unstoppable against New York 6A competition.

Ryan helped lead the Dutchmen to a 10-2 record during his junior season using an array of routes to stomp the competition from straight speed go-routes, slants across the middle, and post routes pulling in pass after pass. The Brooklyn area native is an offensive coordinator’s dream, especially in the red zone, capable of using his big body to shield off defenders and his jumping ability to sky over smaller defensive backs for 50-50 balls.

College coaches across the country are heating up to the idea that Ryan can be that impact player for their squad as possession receiver, red zone target, and weapon that can stretch the opposition vertically keeping teams honest on any down and situation. Thus far, 10 programs have set an offer down for Ryan to consider. The list of hopefuls includes Maryland, Rutgers, Buffalo, Bowling Green, Temple, Western Michigan, Syracuse, Boston College, Nebraska, and Purdue. Teams that have shown interest early in the process includes Ohio State, Alabama, Miami, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Memphis, Georgia, and Clemson among others.

The early teams showing attention to Ryan are getting the first crack at turning a recruiting relationship into a potential player-coach bond. With spring practices winding down and the summer months heating up, Ryan has started to put together his travel list for June and July. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with one of New York’s top Class of 2018 talents getting an overview on his off-season workouts and the schools he may visit this summer.

Interview

Sean, how are spring workouts going?

“Spring workouts are going great. We got out of the weight room and we are now on the field. I’ve been traveling around on the field getting a lot of work in this spring. We are back doing reps in practice getting that connection with our quarterback.”

What have you been focused on this spring?

“I’ve been working on my route running and making all the receptions in my area. I’m working on being consistent and being more aggressive – things like that.”

How is your game coming along?

“I feel like I am polishing everything up. My best improvements are in the red zone. I’m making sure everything is crisp with my route running.”

Have you maxed out in the weight room this off-season?

“I have. My bench is 235, my front squat is 315, my back squat is 385, and my power clean is 255.”

Have you run a 40-yard dash this spring?

“No, but I will run one soon.”

Have any colleges come by school to watch you this spring?

“A lot of colleges have come by to watch us this spring. Buffalo, Boston College, Pitt, Purdue, Nebraska, Temple, Rutgers, and Penn State are a few of the schools that have been at our practices.”

Which schools are stepping up their recruiting interest?

“Pitt is showing a lot of interest. Notre Dame has talked to me. They recently asked for my transcripts.”

Since we last spoke you have picked up two new offers from Purdue and Nebraska. How did Nebraska offer you?

“I spoke with one of their coaches over the phone. He said I was a great player and that he loved my game. Then they extended the offer.”

Have you set up any unofficial visits for this summer?

“In June I will be visiting Nebraska and in July I am planning on visiting Pitt and Virginia Tech.”

What has you excited about visiting Nebraska?

“I just want to see the school and meet the coaches. Their coaches seem very cool and have showed me a lot of love.”

What has you geared up for visiting Pitt?

“They have been on me for a long time. I have been looking into them for a long time as well.”

Last question. Are there any players at the college or NFL level you watch to learn more about the game?

“I like watching Brandon Marshall (New York Jest). I like his maturity and I like the way he plays the game.”

Sean, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your spring practices.

“Thank you.”
