High school football players like Sir Oliver Everett have always been a conundrum for college coaches – a player talented enough to play multiple positions at the next level, but where do we see his greatest upside? UNLV has had a leg-up on the competition with backyard recruit Sir Oliver Everett. The Faith Lutheran standout was relegated to junior varsity status in 2017 due to Nevada transfer rules heading to the Crusaders just before the start of the season. The Rebels staff got to see Everett play both quarterback and safety, offering him as an athlete with the primary position being a safety for UNLV. When the lights go up on the 2018 season, the 6-3, 180-pound, Class of 2019 talent will be in a different area code with a family move from Las Vegas to Memphis coming in June. The new opportunity may give Everett a better chance to prove his worthiness as college signal-caller when all is said and done.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the widely overlooked three-star recruit for insight on his junior season, his move to Tennessee, and his recruiting process.

Interview

Oliver, how did your 2017 season go on the field?

“It was fun. I was able to show more of my abilities on offense.”

What type of offense did you execute last season?

“We ran a RPO (run-pass option)/Spread offense.”

How does the offense fit your skillset?

“I think that is one of my favorite offenses. When I was at Silverado, I was under center.”

How did your overall game improve last season?

“I feel like it improved a lot. I improved on my accuracy, running in open spaces, and I became more confident in my abilities.”

Was there a weakness in your game at the start of the season but by the end of the year you had turned that part of your game into a strength?

“Maybe the playbook. It was a big playbook, and I got there a week before the season started.”

What are you working on this offseason?

“I am working on my accuracy, strength, and my speed. I am also trying to get my weight up.”

You are in process of transferring, correct?

“Yes, sir. I am still at Faith, but I am leaving this summer, in June, for Memphis.”

What has you excited about the transfer and playing in Memphis?

“I have a lot of family there; that is at the top of the list. I will be able to play quarterback the entire season – every snap of the game.”

Have you talked to the coaches at Memphis Academy yet?

“Yes.”

What type of offense do they run there?

“They also run a Spread/RPO.”

Nice. That’ll make the transition easier.

“Yes, sir.”

Since you’ll be in a similar offense, where are you seeing the biggest gains in your improvement as a quarterback working out of a RPO offense?

“I’ve been playing 7v7 (702 Titans), that has helped with reading defenses and accuracy.”

Have you attended any camps or combines this spring?

“I competed at the Elite 11 regional in Vegas.”

How did that camp go for you?

“It was good. It was fun, and it was a good experience. There were a lot of great coaches there.”

What did you do well at that camp to standout?

“My rating is one thing. My freshman year SPARQ score was a 70. Throwing, I did well with my accuracy.”

What was your SPARQ score this year?

“90.33. I had a good vertical at the camp, a 37.8-inch vertical.”

Nice. Do you have any other camps lined up for this summer?

“I am going to a Boise State camp as a quarterback, a UCLA camp as a quarterback, and maybe one more as a defensive back.”

On March 20, you verbally committed to UNLV, what made UNLV the right fit for you as a school and football program?

“Since I plan on graduating early, I did not want the recruiting process to take up a lot of my time. They have a new facility, the new Raider stadium, it is all pretty appealing. I have a strong connection with the coaches at UNLV. I have a really good connection with Coach (Tim) Skipper (DC), we talk a lot.”

How do the UNV coaches see you fitting on their roster?

“They see me at safety. I am going in as an athlete, but Coach Skipper recruited me as a safety. I played safety growing up, I’m used to playing both sides of the ball.”

Did you also play safety last season in JV ball?

“Yes, sir. I played safety last season.”

Are any other college football programs still in contact with you?

“Oregon State, Oregon, and Indiana at safety.”

Have any college coaches come by school this spring to meet you or see you workout?

“Oregon State, Oregon, and Indiana have all come by school this spring.”

Oliver, thanks for your time today and good luck with the move and the upcoming camps.

“Thank you.”
