2015 Season Expected Jumpstart to Allendale-Fairfax CB Damoray Devoe High School Career

Written by Ryan Wright

The beginning of every high school football season brings hope along with an endless amount of high expectations and uncertainty across the U.S. The expectations heading into the 2015 season is no different for Allendale-Fairfax High School. Another common thread woven into the fabric of the game is the hundreds if not thousands of high school football players expected to take the field as a first-year starter this season as a sophomore. One of the many stepping into that frying pan is Allendale-Fairfax cornerback Damoray Devoe.

Jumping into the mix as a sophomore starter is common place in high school football. The pressure for Devoe (5’10”, 140) maybe a little different than what most players will face. The Tigers are coming off a 12-1 season in 2014 that included a three-game run into the South Carolina state playoffs before falling 20-8 to Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

The Tigers also have a lot of returning talent expected back on the roster including dual-threat quarterback Will Ward, running backs Richard Garvin and Travonta Williams, and wide receiver Jerome Polite along with transfer receiver D’Najee Whosendove.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview I sat down with Damoray to get an idea of how he is preparing himself for the challenges he will face as a starting cornerback for Allendale-Fairfax and got an inside scoop on the high expectations the Tigers have placed on the team heading into the season.

Interview
Damoray, last year was a learning season for you spending time on JV and serving as a backup mixed with some special teams. What was the biggest thing you learned during the 2014 season as a freshman playing for Allendale?

“I learned that it’s faster than JV and middle school. I had to work on getting better and workout so I can make plays.”

Which positions did you play last season?

“On JV I played corner, strong safety, and outside linebacker.”

Will you be a starter in 2015?

“Yes. I’m supposed to start at corner.”

What type of corner are you? Are you a run stopping corner, a cover corner, or a zone coverage guy?

“I’m a run corner. I can cover but I like to make tackles.”

What have you been doing in the offseason to prepare for that opportunity?

“I’ve been working out Monday through Friday, going to camps, and doing drills on my own.”

Which college camps did you go to this summer?

“South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson, and Wake Forest.”
