The suspense over where 2016 wide receiver Demetris Robertson would play his college ball finally came to an end on Sunday when the 5-star recruit committed to Cal.

The news for Cal fans was great but Georgia fans were none too pleased with the news. The former Savannah Christian Prep star player had been flirting with the Bulldogs since National Signing Day came and went on Feb. 3. Adding insult to wounded pride, the Georgia native made the announcement at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta to a stunned and quickly hushed crowd.

Robertson jumped to national recruiting attention being a three-phase difference maker playing cornerback, wide receiver, running back and shined on special teams as a punt and kick returner. During his high school career, Robertson had 3,332 all-purpose yards and 35 touchdowns.

The U.S. Army All-American was in the neighborhood of 30 scholarships during the thick of the recruiting battle with offers from Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia Tech, and USC among many others.

Reports surfaced that Robertson was holding off on making his final decision hoping to get a better test score to get into Stanford. He signed a financial aid agreements with Cal and Georgia Tech after signing day allowing both schools unlimited contact with him until his decision was made. Still he continued to take unofficial visit to Georgia leading many to believe the Bulldogs would ultimately be his landing spot.

The addition of Robertson did not push the Cal team into the Top 30 in rankings per 247Sports but did nudge them up the poll to No. 31.
