Seemingly without much fan fair or media attention, on Tuesday, Florida three-star defensive tackle Jordon Scott decommitted from the University of Florida. The news was shocking considering how much Scott appeared to love the Gators.

Anyone scrolling Scott’s Twitter page can see a long line of Florida tweets and retweets promoting the school he verbally committed to on May 25. The reasons behind the decommitment are only slightly known with a lot left to try to figure out. From that same Twitter feed one understands this decision was not mutually exclusive.

Scott’s posted decommitment on Twitter:

Later on, Scott was asked outright on Twitter, “did they (Florida) tell you to decommit?” With Scott responding:

The reasons behind the scenes are between Florida and Scott, but if Florida dropped Scott for a perceived higher ranked or higher valued recruit in the 2017 class, this is a shameful recruiting tactic by Gators’ head coach Jim McIlwain and his staff. It happens all the time and throughout the country, but that does not make it right.

Before we feel too bad for Scott, unlike a lot of players forced to decommit, he is not without options. The 6-1, 345 pound, Pinellas Park High School standout has over 20 offers from teams like Florida State, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Indiana, Minnesota, Louisville, Arizona, West Virginia, Rutgers, Purdue, Ole Miss, and Kentucky. How many of those offers are still on the table remains to be seen, but Scott is a high profile recruit who is sure to get a lot of attention now that he apparently has had his recruitment re-opened.

The silver lining for Scott, he has plenty of time to find a new program to play for at the next level.

The Gators 2017 recruiting class now has 15 commits and is ranked No. 17 in the nation, No. 8 in the SEC per 247Sports.
