Another week of California high school football has come and gone helping shape end of season playoff seeding while catapulting area talents into the national spotlight. The big game from last week was Chaminade at St. John Bosco but the coming out party was Orange Lutheran’s Class of 2019 quarterback Ryan Hilinski topping the 500-yard passing mark.

Orange Lutheran moved up to No. 4 with Chaminade dropping from No. 4 to No. 6 after a hard-fought 31-17 loss to No. 2 St. John Bosco on the road. OLU beat Vista Murrieta 40-20 behind the play of Ryan Hilinski in the pocket. The strong-armed junior hit 30-of-42 pass attempts for 538-yards with four touchdowns covering 400-yards in the first half. Previously ranked No. 9 Rancho Cucamonga dropped out of the rankings making room for Servite on a bye week. The Friars jumped into the poll after a 52-24 win over Roosevelt (Eastvale) pushing their record to 3-0.

In the Division II rankings, a reshuffling of the back-half of the Top 10 took place but nothing too big. Citrus Hill, at No. 3, and Westlake, at No. 4, shot up the rankings jumping from sixth and ninth respectively in the latest rankings in Division III. Newbury Park dropped from No. 4 to No. 10 after a 42-40 home loss to Westlake. Newbury Park Class of 2018 quarterback Cameron Rising (Texas) connected on 11-of-20 passes for 190 yards with three touchdowns and ran for 122 yards with three scores off nine carries. Josh Madison led his team with 190 yards on a workhorse 21 totes.

In Division IV, then- No. 10 Colony dropped out of the rankings and San Juan Hills fell from No. 3 to No. 8 after a 14-7 home loss to Capistrano Valley. Lawndale jumped from No. 6 to No. 2 in Division V improving to 2-0 after a 47-7 home win over Crespi. Paraclete was given a lot of props for taking on Oaks Christian remaining at No. 1 despite the tight 30-21 loss. The new addition to the rankings was Damien.

In Division VII, South Hills dropped out making way for Warren. Rio Mesa is the new No. 1 in Division VIII bumping Valley Christian down to No. 3. In Division IX, Muir and Norwalk were rolled off the rankings for West Ranch and Santa Barbara. West Ranch jumped in at No. 5 this week. The rankings in Division X stayed exactly the same.
