For someone that has a flair for causing end zone celebrations, Class of 2019 all-around talent Evan Robinson is a rare football breed. During his junior season, he pulled in eight passes for an estimated 220 yards with eight total touchdowns; yet the 6-3, 215-pound, rising star likes the action blocking at tight end just as much as pulling down the pigskin for a score. If that’s not enough, he also shinned at outside linebacker/end for Maumelle High School coming up with 26 stops, four forced fumbles, two sacks and four tackles for a loss in eight games played.

As the heat picks up on Robinson’s recruiting, I sat down for a one-on-one interview with the Arkansas product covering his junior year and offseason workouts.

Interview

Evan, the Hornets played some tough teams last season, especially opening with North Little Rock. How did playing against top competition like that help push your game forward?

“It made me a better player. North Little Rock went after it all game. You have to match that intensity. The harder the competition, the better you get. Playing against them helped me use my hands and get off the line better. That helped me the rest of the season.”

You lined up all over the field during your junior season playing some receiver, tight end, and defensive end, did you play at any other positions?

“For a couple of games, I was our long snapper and I played some outside linebacker.”

Of the three positions mentioned, which is your favorite?

“I like tight end the most. I like to block.”

Of all the games played, which game was your best last season?

“The Greenbrier and Vilonia were my best games.”

What did you do well in those games to make them your best?

“I was pushing everyone to play harder and pushing myself to play better. My leadership in those games made those games my best.”

How did your overall game improve on offense during your junior year at tight end?

“My coach always tells me you have to block, run perfect routes, and be smart. I kept working hard and got better and followed his advice. My blocking got better throughout the year. I work with our offensive linemen too. They were teaching me pass-set and run blocking techniques to help me.”

How did your game get better as a receiver?

“I worked out with JJ Meadors (Salt County Training). He helped me with my footwork and speed. With my size, I have an advantage over corners. He helped me with that.”

How were you utilized within the Hornets offense?

“I was a main target. I’m a big receiver. It is easy to get the ball to me because of my height size. My hands are always ready for a pass.”

How would you describe your style of play on defense?

“I get after it. Playing end, I am faster than most of the offensive linemen. I know how to use my hands and it is easy to get around them.”

Have you been to any camps or combines this offseason?

“Yes, sir. I went to the Rivals camp in Dallas and Tennessee, and some local camps.”

How did the Dallas camp go?

“It was a good camp. I made it to the second day, but I could not stay for the second day. I had to go back home.”

Have you maxed out in the weight room this spring?

“Yes, sir. My squat is 475 and my power clean is 225.”

Which schools are showing recruiting interest in you?

“Texas State, Murray State, UT-Martin, Arkansas, and Arkansas State.”

Have you received an offer?

“Yes, sir. I have an offer from Arkansas Baptist College.”

Have you taken any unofficial visits?

“Yes, sir. I have been to Texas State, UT-Martin, Arkansas State, and Arkansas.”

How did your visit to Texas State go?

It was good. I liked the coaches and the facilities. It was good all around. They were showing me love.

How did the UT-Martin visit go?

“I visited UT-Martin on April 14; that was a good visit too. I liked it there.”

What about Arkansas State, how did the visit with the Red Wolves go?

“That’s the school. I’d love to go there. I like the coaches. I like the school, facilities, and their weight room. Everything there was nice.”

Do you have any college camps set for this summer?

“Yes, sir. I plan on attending camps at Memphis, Arkansas, Texas State, and a satellite camp Louisiana.”

Do you have any upcoming national camps and/or combines set?

“I’ve been invited to Nike Opening. I’m not sure if I can make that camp yet.”

Are you playing any other sports for Maumelle?

“Yes, sir. Basketball and I played baseball for a year.”

Last question. What is your primary offseason goal?

“I want to be 225 pounds by the start of the season and in the 4.6 range with my 40-yard dash.”

Evan, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
