Talent on the football field is easy to spot. Gauging where that talent currently resides and where it may go based on grade classification is a little trickier to nail down. Size, athleticism, and production are the foundation for any college football recruiting evaluation and Class of 2020 wide receiver Michael “Mike” Wyman has it all.

The future for Wyman is truly in his baseball glove sized hands. All the potential and upside in the world is contained in his 6-5, 195 pound, build. The North Carolina rising star snared 21 passes for 281 yards with three scores during his freshman season playing at the 3A varsity level for Northern Guilford. While with the Nighthawks, Wyman showcased great open-field speed, especially for his size and grade, high points the ball, catches the ball with his hands in and out of traffic, and fights for extra yards.

All the budding talent in Wyman will now be capitalized upon by Dudley High School. The Greensboro area squad thrusts Wyman into the thick of North Carolina’s 4A Division after winning a state title in 2016 with a 15-1 mark. The Panthers made a point in the championship game downing Cape Fear 54-0 for the trophy. High expectations for the Panthers to repeat loom overhead entering the 2017 season, something Wyman is happy to be a part of during his sophomore season.

Word on the impact potential Wyman can bring to the collegiate level is starting to spread. As one might guess, the North Carolina schools are already showing interest in their in-state talent with the Tar Heels, Wolfpack, and Demon Deacons touching base. Additionally, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and Tennessee are among the other Power Five Conference programs that have taken notice. Expect interest to expand quickly and the offer sheet to grow once Wyman showcases his skills for Dudley in 2017.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the more talented 2020 receivers in the nation covering his freshman season, transfer from Northern Guilford to Dudley, and received an update on his recruiting interests.

Interview

Mike, during your freshman season with Northern Guilford, you were second on the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns scored, did you know that you would be a focal point of the offense going into the 2016 schedule?

“No, sir. I had my mind focused on the game. I was not focused on the stats. I was worried about the W.”

How has the transfer from Northern Guilford to Dudley High School gone so far?

“It is going great – fantastic actually. Every day I’m working hard. I’m just trying to work hard to get the win.”

The Nighthawks were running a spread offense, what type of offense do the Panthers execute?

“We run a spread too.”

Will your role on offense be any different during your sophomore season as compared to last year?

“No, sir. I will have the same role.”

Will we see you on defense in 2017?

“My speed and my pass catching, and knowing where I am at on the field.”

What goals have you set for yourself during the 2017 season?

“I want to break the single-season touchdown, receptions, and yards records at Dudley. Anything to do with breaking all the records I can, that is what I want to do.”

What has you excited about visiting Clemson, Alabama, and Auburn?

“Just knowing that they are big named schools that are interested in me. Each school is very talented at football and have great academics.”

What is the focus of each visit?

“Meet the coaches and see the facilities.”

When you talk to college coaches, what are they telling you they like about your game?

“My route running, my pass catching abilities, my size, and speed. They like everything about me. And my grades.”

What is your cumulative GPA?

“4.0.”

Nice. Are you playing any other sports for Dudley?
