Class of 2020 Servite tight end Jake Overman spent his junior season pushing Trinity League defenders around in the run game while emerging as a receiving threat in the Friars’ offense after pulling in 20 passes for 163 yards. The 6-4.5, 235-pound, every down end has attracted national recruiting interest with 14 offers extended to date with a rush on the recruiting trail coming his way after displaying his talents and national camps and combines, school hosted college showcases, and now on collegiate campuses. The three-star recruit took his show on the road over the weekend camping with and visiting the Arkansas Razorbacks. To find out how it went, I sat down with the Anaheim (CA) area product for an exclusive interview.

Interview

Jake, how did the Arkansas camp go for you?

“It went well. It was really cool. I went out there with a group of six or seven guys. It was a specialist camp but it was still a camp day so we were allowed to work with our position coaches. They had the special teams coaches on one side and it was us six guys with our position coaches on the other side. That is something I have never done. It was not a big camp with 200 guys. Coach (Barry) Lunney (TE) was with me the entire time. Their offensive coordinator, Coach (Joe) Craddock and their head coach, Coach (Chad) Morris, were overseeing everything. It was cool to hang out and be coached up by those guys.”

What type of drills did the coaches put you through at the camp?

“We did some tight end blocking on the bag to see my hands, hips and feet working together. Coach Lunney had some good things to say about my blocking. He said he saw the talent and natural ability I had and if I get with the right tight end coach in college that I can do some great things. We also did some footwork drills on receiving, cone and hand drills. We finished up with some routes. We had two quarterbacks in our group throwing to us.”

Did you feel like you were able to showcase your talents the way you wanted?

“No. I could have done a lot better. It wasn’t my best day.”

Did you get to tour the campus and facilities, if you did, what were your thoughts?

“I did. After we worked out, Coach Craddock took us around the facilities and stadium. It was crazy. They put a lot of time, money, and effort into their football program. Arkansas’ facilities and their entire program is one of the nicest if not the nicest I have seen so far.”

You mentioned some great feedback from Coach Lunney, what else did the Arkansas coaches talk to you about during the visit?

“Coach Craddock gave me his number and I received Coach Lunney’s to reach out to them to get this thing going. They want to evaluate me deeper and talk to me more to get to know me better.”

You’ve been to a lot of camps and combines this offseason, what have been some of the more interesting techniques or pieces of information you have picked up of the game from the vast amount of talented coaches who have worked with you so far?

“It has been the small things that I have picked up along the way. From a receiver stand point, I have learned some new releases. Coach Craddock worked with me on my stance – things like that. The coaches have been complimentary to my game; that is good. It has been the little-small things that I have learned that will help me improve.”

Which camps are you planning on attending next?

“Next week I will be heading to Indiana and Purdue.”

Have you set any official or unofficial visits?

“I have one official set to Oregon State for June 21-23.”

What has you excited about the official visit to Oregon State?

“I am excited to go up there with my entire family. On my unofficial up there, I went with my dad. I get to show them what I see in Oregon State, and hopefully they will get the same vibe. My sister and my mom have not met Coach (Brian) Wozniak (TE) yet, but they have heard a lot about him. I am excited to see what my family has to say about Oregon State and see if they see the same great things that I see in their program.”

Jake, thanks for your time today and good luck with your upcoming camps to Indiana and Purdue.

“Thank you.”
