Aggies Land Second 2017 Weekend Commitment with 4-Star OT Grayson Reed

The momentum behind Texas A&M’s recruiting efforts are picking up landing two commitments over the weekend. The first was big 4-star cornerback Myles Jones on Saturday and then 4-star offensive tackle Grayson Reed on Sunday.

Reed was a top in-state target for several Texas programs. The Longhorns and Aggies seemed to be the top two slugging it out on the recruiting trail for the 6’5”, 295 pound tackle. Reed took turns visiting the Longhorns and Aggies attending a Junior Day with Texas on Feb. 27 and then headed to College Station on March 2. The visits between the two programs ratcheted back up in early April with the Aggies hosting on April 1 with the Longhorns getting Reed on April 2. The weekend visit to College Station sealed the deal getting his commitment ending the recruiting process in theory for Reed.

Nearly 30 schools had offered Reed by the time he committed to Texas A&M. Among the many included Baylor, Cal, Auburn, Florida, Houston, Nebraska, Kansas State, Miami, Michigan State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, UCLA, Oklahoma State, and TCU. Grayson posted a quick note on Twitter confirming his commitment, “ITS OFFICIAL! #Gigemgang17.”

Reed worked his way into being a 4-star prospect with Cypress Creek High School in 2015. The Cougars went 7-5 beating Benjamin Davis 34-32 in the opening round of the UIL playoffs before falling 44-28 to Strake Jesuit.

Myles Jones, listed at 6’4”, 182 pounds, is a big and quick corner out of Magnolia West High School. Jones posted his commitment on Twitter writing, “Very blessed to say that I’m committing to Texas A&M!!! Thanks to God, the Fam, and coaches. #GigEmGang17.” He picked the Aggies over offers from teams like Mississippi State, Utah, Houston, Cal, Baylor, Oklahoma, Kansas  State, and Oklahoma State.

Texas A&M now has six verbal commitments to their 2017 class pulling all but one, quarterback Tate Martell, from in-state high schools.
